As others have said, most of the ads are via Google AdChoices (formerly Google AdSense) and the exact ads shown are automatically selected (by Google) based on the content of the page you're viewing. You can also buy ads directly from AFF - I arranged some advertising for the company I work for directly with AFF a few months back.
As to why you're seeing an add for EK F to Launceston... that's a good question

Nah, not particularly - happy to share the results (although not the business involved - sorry).
The short answer is no, it didn't. However, a few caveats around that:
1) My business is not offering a travel-related (or even credit-card-related) product, so we were never expecting positive ROI in the short-term. The idea was to do a bit of branding, and to try and target an audience of high income earners / influencers who also enjoy leisure products, which would translate to positive ROI over the long-term (repeat business, word of mouth referrals, etc).
2) Due to some changes to our priorities / available marketing budget ended up only running the ads for a short time (a month or so?). For the above style of advertising to work it would need to run for quite some time.
So I don't think the fact that it didn't work on face value is an entirely fair evaluation. Based on the results we saw I don't think it would have been a blinding success even if we had continued for longer, but it had the potential to be somewhat ROI positive.
