I've just booked some flights on JL for later this month. I remember reading that they are in the process of joining the oneworld alliance, so does anyone know when JL flights will earn points that can be credited to QFF?

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I don't think anyone knows the answer to that.

But, there's no way it will be in time for you to get points (unfortunately).

JAL full entry to Oneworld is supposed to occur at the end of this year, so I suspect sometime around then.

From OneWorld.com web site:

Japan Airlines completes first step towards oneworld membership

08 February 2006

Japan Airlines (JAL)and oneworldTM have exchanged a memorandum of understanding, completing the Asian carrier's first step towards joining the world's leading quality global airline alliance.

The agreement was signed just three months after JAL first indicated its intention to seek oneworld membership.

It sets out a framework for the remaining steps to be taken before the alliance can formally invite the airline to join. All parties have committed to reach this stage in the next few months – and then to bring the new recruit on board oneworld on a fast track programme.

Assuming all remaining agreements can be reached, this should see JAL flying as a fully fledged member of the alliance in around a year.

A possible solution is to be an AAdvantage member. JAL mileage accrues to AA (but doesn't earn toward elite status). So do the Platinum Challenge if you do some One World flights, and just take the JAL mileage as something extra.

Thanks for the info guys. The flights are only short so it's no big deal. I just wanted to make sure I was not missing out on earning any points! :D

It generally takes a long time between announcing intention to join alliance, making commitment and it actually happening.

Eg the 2 latest *A partners - LX joined 1 April 06 with announcement in December 2005 IIRC. This was a fast entry following purchase of LX by LH and speedy integration of the airlines. SA joined 10 April 06 after announcing joining *A in 2003 (or was it early 2004?)! Yes a very slow entry.
