I'm currently in NYC trying to leave. I arrived on what was one of the best flights I've ever had, QF107 at the pointy end, to find that my and x million others AA flights had been disrupted by the FAAs reinspection orders for MD80's.
My DONEx flight for LGA-ATL for tomorrow is cancelled and, after 2 hours following instruction to call AA, was told because it's a paper ticket I have to go to the airport. Subsequently told that I could speak to the RTW desk, where the ticket was booked, so I'm now waiting for them to re-open. If I can't be on a flight in the next 48 hours I'd love to abandon the leg and make my own way to ATL (other airline, rental, train) but that will have severe consequences for my ticket which still has 14 segments to go.
Not having AA status makes things a lot harder I fear.
Any thoughts much appreciated. I just want to get to ATL and get on with my trip. The aternative of cancelling/changing hotels/ meetings/rental cars/ plans seems not attractive. Grinning and bearing it seems high on the list at the moment.
