What's your little luxury item?

A US work colleague who grew up in Nooo England took me to his favourite restaurant chain - Legal Seafood. There he order a bowl of Steamers for his starter. Then a bowl of steamers for main (entrée in US terms), and then finished off with a bowl of steamers for desert.

Legal is a pretty decent chain, but my favorite is a place called the Barking Crab. It's basically a run down old shed with long shared tables and a rock on each to smash open your food. I love it and take a lot of Aussies there.

They serve drinks in plastic cups, buts it pretty easy to spend $60 on an entree (main).

Is the flight weather delayed?

Yeah, nothing too serious - delays on in-bound flights and delays with de-icing etc... Seattle don't cope too well with snow.

I ended up making QF108 (even had time to finally try the TBIT Flounge) but the guy next to me juuust missed QF94 (and he was sitting in F). He ended up getting an F seat on 108, so all good. :)

Cheers,
- Febs.

Glad to hear you made your flight. Delays at Logan are very heavy. It started snowing at 2pm and we have a foot of snow by now (10pm) and it doesn't look like it's stopping any time soon.

Ouch, hope it doesn't affect your Christmas mate!

I am a cheepskate so no luxury items for me! Do cheap golf clubs count?

Surely no-one can find it comfortable to wear a suit on a 8-20hr flight? Are you really in that much of a hurry when they land that they can't go and get changed? I'd never schedule a long-haul international flight with so little time that I have to go straight from the airport to a meeting, unless I absolutely had to.

Haha, I hate wearing PJs with long trousers to sleep, and I don't think people would appreciate seeing me in sleeping shorts (and I'd find it too embarrassing to do so in public), so I'd sooner sleep in my suit, or at least minus the jacket.

I do sometimes go straight from the airport to a meeting, but always after a shower and change of clothes and it doesn't influence my decision not to get changed on board.

Another vote for headphones. Sennheister PXC350 noise cancelling. They come in a big carry case so I consider them a travel luxury!

I now can't travel without my baby Asus EEEPC1000HD. I love it - so quick to start up and then check emails and the web, download pics and the battery life is fantastic.

What did I do without it?

I still cant get used to the little shift button on the right though, as I spend too much time using a regular keyboard! (I suppose I could get one of those folding keyboards but that's just more stuff to carry!)

I have the EEE PC 1000H (it's like the HD but with the Intel Atom processor, not the older Celeron, leading to better battery life). I bought it as a little bit of an interest for travel, and have amazed myself at how it's now my primary portable PC - that combined with Vodafone's wireless internet has me accessing it everywhere - work, on transport, when I'm out, in a taxi, etc.

Am absolutely amazed at how useful it has become. It goes with me everywhere now.

I often take two packs of Tim Tams - one to share at a team meeting and one for me to devour in the hotel room while dreaming of home.

Back when it was harder for Americans to get Tim Tams or they didn't know what they were, I used to pack 36 packs of them in my luggage to give to people on my trips. Back then, they could easily be used as currency - if you needed to thank someone for helping you, you gave them a pack of Tim Tams (and demonstrated how to do a Tim Tam Slam!). They loved it, and were always willing to help you out again!

All for less than $2 per pack bought on special at the local Woolworths in the few weeks before I travelled!

Yep, I have a pair (it may have been on your recommendation in another thread?); that are about to be used on my BWN-PER and then my PER-BNE on Tuesday. Definitely a good addition to the travel kit.

It could have been me, yes - I rave about them to everyone I know!

I can't understand why people like the Bose so much - overpriced for what they are. The cheaper alternatives (like the ATH-ANC7) are far better.

My little luxury item is my 3GJUICE rechargeable backup battery for my iPhone. It gives my phone the extra life that I need at the end of a long day. A friend in the states told me about it and they happen to have a local reseller here in Australia...

Welcome to AFF, tripleJ!

Hadn't noticed this thread before - I wouldn't consider it a luxury as such, but my travel essentials for any long haul flight is:
  • PJs - sweat pants and t-shirt
  • NC headphones (Sennheiser PXC250) + iPhone
  • My own amenities, especially decent toothpaste, toothbrush and moisturiser
I also make a point of packing my own body wash, because the hotels that I can afford usually have some nasty cheap soap - I guess that makes body wash my little travel luxury! :)

I used to travel with Bose NC headphones, but the QF J headphones have decent noise canceling, and as I refuse to check luggage (currently on a 4 week trip with carry-on ;) ) the Bose take up too much space. I looked at the Sennheiser's but they are big too... The only problem is when I fly Air France - Their headphones are rubbish. Are in-ear NC headphones any good?

The wireless router is an interesting luxury. Have never thought of that.

My Tumi bags are probably my only luxury. Cheaper bags can probably do the job, but Tumi seem to have thought of everything for the frequent traveller.

My Shure SE310-KCE earphones aren't a luxury item, they are an absolute necessity when I travel. They allow me to completely trance during the flight and arrive with a clear head.

Also wouldn't leave home without my iPod.

Not sure if I have any actual luxury items though...

My necessity luxury are my QC3 headphones.
My newest luxury is my new Acer aspire with a 120gb HDD which charges my HTC Phone, TomTom with Aust and US mapsets and Sansa MP3 player with lots of Sherlock holmes radio plays on it!
Never really thought of PJ's for longhaul, but will try them on Saturday on the way to SFO

Mine is Bose QC2 headphone. I want to settle with cool music while on travel. It also helps me to unwind from stressful work.
