Not necessarily advice given but also received?

I've come across a few:

1. Never work to sustain a lifestyle; that way you are always in charge, not your bills.

2. Hire slow, fire fast

3. Don't be an idiot.
 
Would you be proud to tell your mother what you've just done?

If not then why do it?
 
Buy low.....sell high.
Or if you sell what you haven't bought yet then Sell high and Buy low
Repeat this during your life.
 
When you get a pay rise, put that money onto your mortgage and continue to budget like you didn't ever get a pay rise.
 
Not advice, but a question. " do you kiss your mother with that mouth"?
 
I tell my kids 'Do more listening than talking.' And 'Don't be afraid to ask. '
