What's with the stars?

Some of the posts earn yellow Stars. What does this signify?. I can't find the answer in the icon options.

Check the "Rate this Thread" icon at the top of the posts.

There now - I have rated this thread 4 stars ...

Where do you see the result of the rating? I don't see it when I am in the thread and I do not see it when I am in new posts. Do you need to be in that specific forum such as 'Your Questions'?

Click the "Rate this Thread" icon at the top of the posts. You will see the "Current Rating".

The stars do not come out for 'searches' - you need to select a forum page and look at the thread listing.

Wouldn't the stars be relevant in searches and in 'New Posts' to show the popularity of the thread if there has been any rating on it?

The rating is not about popularity but usefulness. Popularity can be judged by the number of views and replies, if that's your thing.
