What's up with Emirates?

Intersting. Not in our experience. The F lounges have been very good.

Most people in DXB get to use the T3 lounges, which are not just very good, they are b****y superb. The unlucky few that fly EK from T1 experience the tired old lounge there.

Not in our experience. They post automatically in a day or two.
This is a puzzle. Are they QF points off EK marketed flights? I did get some points posted quickly on an EK flight but it was a QF marketed ticket. All the flights in question have been to KBL or ISB, its like they want to give me a perverse incentive to switch to Flying Rewards.

Haven't flown Emirates for a while, while they and TK offer the best product out of KBL, I haven't been able to get reasonable price OW airfares from DXB for a while.

A few of these flights have included upgrades to F, a very jolly experience indeed.

Cheers skip.

You can earn QF points on QF/EK flights if you use your QFF number.
You can earn EK points on QF/EK flights if you use your EKFF number.
You can earn QF Status Credits on EK flights ONLY if you quote your QFF number AND it is a code share QF flight number.
Essentially for QF SC and max QF points one needs to book through QF web or travel agent with code share on EK metal. You can only do this for flights win the alliance agreement, so to Europe / NZ. You can't earn QF SC on flights to USA/CANADA. (Not sure about points, maybe.) In fact you can't even buy USA/Canada flights on EK through QF via web or phone.

I agree that the standard of meals served in business class has deteriorated, and when the purser apologised for the repeated failure of their much praised ICE entertainment system I said it was in serious need of an upgrade. This resulted in my being upgraded to first class on the next leg of my voyage but unfortunately the one meal (breakfast) I had there were no better either.

Regarding A380 seat width. A SeatGuru seat map I downloaded on 20/01/2015 showed the business class seats are only 18.5 inches wide, only 0.5 inch wider that economy and a full two inches narrower than the business class seats on Emirates 777. I hope SeatGuru got it wrong!

First world problem

They served the Dom Rose 2004 warm!!!!! guess they did not expect me to ask for it, rather they told me its not chilled... sacrilege
At least the nuts were toasty warm

I recently caught an emirates Singapore Melbourne flight flying in j. The flight departed at 10.40 pm and the meal service was incredibly slow. When I was asked for my choice I informed the flight attendant that I had no menu. She then tried to find one in my seat pocket and when that confirmed what I had said she started explaining what was available. I told her I couldn't hear as I have some hearing problems particularly on planes with background noise. Then she lost patience and pushed her order sheet in front of me and I had to choose from some handwritten scribble. I choose fish and it was terrible. Breakfast came and I received a tray with still no menu or any idea if there was any choices. All in all terrible service and worst was the attitude in response to a physical disability. I wrote to the air line and two weeks later no response.

This is a very interesting thread. One has some poor flights on every airline at times.

But most of the negativity for EK is from people with low AFF posting counts. Am I being too suspicious and negative also?

Generally, this happens when a thread gets posted onto the gazette/email update thingy and then people come out of the woodwork to post. Happens quite frequently to relatively old/dead threads.

Recently was in F from Paris-Dubai-Brisbane. They have a "FA communication" system in the ICE /Phone remote. Because EK have F and J upstairs where the background wind noise is very high, I could not hear the replies over the back ground nose. Anyway, a few seconds later she arrived at my seat, saying the phone not too successful due to noise and to simply push the FA button on the remote screen control, which signals in the galley and next to the seat the old fashioned way. Usually took about 20-30 seconds until some one arrived. In the 'night' if I wanted some thing, I would wander down to the galley, where usually two FA's on duty were chatting, and only too willing to help.

A quick look at the BITRE figures in Table 3 shows that from Oz to DXB in April 2015 Emirates was busy, but not at 95 per cent seat occupancy:

http://bitre.gov.au/publications/ongoing/files/International_airline_activity_1504.pdf

My limited experience with this carrier has been mixed: once, I was upgraded on a B777, on others it's been packed and therefore (given the narrow seats) unpleasant.

Is one problem with this airline that because it has staff from many backgrounds with different accents including many for whom English is not a first language) that sometimes one staff member cannot easily understand what another is saying over the noise of the aircraft? I'm referring to when staff members are on either side of a trolley.

It's far preferable to journey via Asia rather than the Middle East.

My experience on ek404 sin mel in J was also appalling. Incredibly slow service, crew arguing with each other in the aisles! 90 minutes after takeoff to get a glass of wine. I gave up my meal at the main course point since it was 2.5 hours after departure and time running out for sleep. Didn't even bother with breakfast. Just pathetic

Aussie_flyer, did you cauliflower ears or finely honed lip reading skills allow you to discern why the EK crew were 'arguing with one another?'

They were standing in the aisle arguing in English right beside me. Ive never experienced anything like it. I wouldn't have said it if it wasnt true

After reading this thread, starting to get a bit nervous about my upcoming trip in J SYD-BKK. I have flown Emirates for trips SYD - AKL and SYD CHC is J and F and have no real reason to complain to date. I have completed 4 trips with them in the last 6 months on the NZ routes. My SYD BKK trip has a very short turn around, so I was looking foward to some decent food and service on board.

Based on some of the comments made here, I might have to pack some 2 minute noodles in my carry on,

I think they are generally good on the short flights to NZ. Ive enjoyed those.

Aussie_flyer, you may have misunderstood me. I don't doubt for a minute that the crew were arguing. What was the subject matter?

Something along the lines of the dinner service and who was doing what. I cant remember more specifically it was 5 months ago. It was no wonder the whole thing was so disorganised and slow.

In context, maybe banter rather than argument.

Gosh you know I've been living on earth close to 34 years now and I can identify an argument occurring beside me. Anyway believe what you want, couldnt give a stuff.
