What's the status of status credits on the Qantas-Emirates deal??

Just booked a SIN-LHR flight. Emirates has it at SGD1,280 return. Great deal. Went on QF site to try to find the fare for the same SIN-LHR flight - SGD1,787.
Did you try some of the online travel agents such as Expedia? They may have had a Qantas codeshare on the Emirates flights for not much difference in price.

A friend is heading off to Thailand tomorrow on QF codeshares on Emirates flights booked via Expedia and they were the same price as the Qantas flights but better timing on the outbound leg. He does not have any status with any airline so that was not a factor in choosing.

Thanks - but it was too late, as the sale price expired at midnight (SG time) and I had to pull the trigger immediately. Had I known there would be no SCs for booking on EK code, I would have booked SQ instead for the same price on an A380 without the stopover (also expiring at midnight). Oh well, you live and learn.

I put in my QF membership so that I could at least earn some measly QFF miles but that means that I can't see my bookings on Skywards membership site. Does that mean that if I choose to collect QF miles, I forgo my Skyward Tier Miles?

No, you could still see your flights on EK site - even with a QF codeshare, let alone an EK-numbered flight with QFF number.

Yes, either QFF or Skyward but not both.

Does the end of the QF-BA JV affect the ability to earn Avios for BAEC members on FJ?

Back in March I got Avios AND TPs on a flight from SYD to NAN - booked it as a QF flight. Although I believe earning TPs was a fluke.

Does anyone think it will ever happen? ie earning Qantas SCs on Emirates flights (non code-share)?

Probably not. If that happened nobody would fly QF if they had the choice given the difference in product quality.

Let's simplify the discussion and put some concrete examples. I want to fly BNE-DXB-VCE return. I 'can' book this direct through the Qantas site, but all the flights are EK not codeshare. So, this means I will not get SCs as I understand? If I can't get SCs then I'll fly with Cathay or someone else.

Red Roo any definitive answer?

It's really not that hard. If there is a QF flight number, you get both SC and miles. If it's an EK flight number, then you only get miles. To take your example, if you fly BNE-DXB-VCE and you want to earn SCs, then you could fly:

QF 8435 BNE-DXB (operated by EK) - earn 7442 miles plus 7442 status bonus = 14884 miles and 90 SC in Y
EK 135 DXB-VCE - earn 2756 miles (only)

so, in Y, for BNE-DXB-VCE, as a WP, you would earn 17640* miles and 90 SCs.

* miles are approximate due to variations in QF's route distances and Great Circle Mapper's calculation.

Ok that's what I thought. What a pity for Qantas.

It looks like we will NOT be flying EK then. We need the SC to maintain WP. Qantas loses it seems. Very silly policy. Time to look at another airline program maybe.

Before you discount QF, you should check your OW alternatives...

CX

QF97 - BNE-HKG - 4318 miles + 4318 status bonus + 60 SC
CX - HKG-FRA - 5688 miles + 70 SC
LH - FRA-VCE - nothing

Total on CX - 14324 miles and 130 SC

MH

MH134 - BNE-KUL - 1003 miles and 60 SC
MH4 - KUL-LHR - 1640 miles and 80 SC
BA2583 - LHR-VCE - 696 miles and 30 SC

Total on MH - 3339 miles and 170 SC

BA

QF51 - BNE-SIN - 3818 miles + 3818 status bonus and 60 SC
BA16 - SIN-LHR - 6742 miles and 80 SC
BA2583 - LHR-VCE - 696 miles and 30 SC

Total on BA - 15074 miles and 170 SC

So, QF/EK is the best option for miles (by 2566miles), but other OW carriers are better for SCs (in full Y at least). If you consider the BA option; being the closest to QF in terms of miles, the difference is 80 SC. If on the other hand you book Disc Y, the QF advantage for miles will be huge and the SC difference will be much less.

You should also consider the flight/journey times as well:

BA: 22:05 hrs flying time plus 8:30 hrs transit time = total of 30:35 hours
vs

QF/EK: 20:20 hrs flying time plus 4:30 transit time = total of 25:10 hrs

You need to consider if the additional time is worth those SC

Many thanks for the work you put in. I have done the planning and i am aware of all these alternatives, as well as qantas via SYD. The point of the post was that Qantas will lose out here so it's bad for Qantas since previously I would have flown Qantas via SYD or QF code share out of Brisbane.

Who flies in Y for OS trips? :)

Who flies in Y for OS trips? :)

Some consciously prefers to spend the $ difference between Y and J on shopping once they get there.

Esp. those with some status who may have access to better seats and/or potential points upgrade.

OPM: F or J always (with lots of connections if possible)

OM: it depends on the occasions

PS: OPM other people's money ; OM own money

While I have the greatest admiration for those who can put up with cattle class (dot in particular must deserve a medal or a free monogrammed neck cushion at least) been using OM for J/F since 1990. Remember the adage "If you don't fly first class, your children certainly will."

Guys do you get FULL* QF points and SCs if flying on Emirates metal on flight number QF84xx ?

*Full as in the same amount of points/SCs as if you had flown on QF metal with a QF flight number.

If not, how are the points/SCs calculated in such a case ?

Thanks

It's a QF flight number so points and SC's as per any normal QF flight number (except if its on JQ)
