I was looking for JASA's one way Oz to the US and noticed that some were over 1 million points one way whereas some were 120,000 points a whopping diff of 900,000 points. This was on QF15 BNE/LAX btw.

Was just curious as to what the cheapest JASA any AFFer's have got here one way or return & what points & SC they earned on it.

For newbies to AFF here's the link below with more info on JASA's - Business class any seat award that accrue ff points and status credits vs the classic award flights that don't.

Can't seem to access Mileage Monkey at the moment to check points & SC to be earned.

JASA's really kick up some interesting results:

There's a one-way sub 100K points available, but to use it you need a ~$300 ex-BNE (20sc in Economy) positioning flight and a night's accommodation. It gives 280 SC including the repositioning flight.

I took First on Any Seat one way at 159060 points on QF108 returning LAX-SYD
Either J in markis10 post or F are the true bargains of long haul point redemptions.

What date was that cove?

I got akl/syd/lax for 84000 plus $200 nil, got to re-position so probably get a LAN. That was 6 June 11

Not a bad deal but would like to snare a F return or get a return bargain j class out of the states to return a year later.

Cheers spruce

Hello Spruce,
Have been doing First and Business to the US for more than a decade on points.
Typically we go on different planes.March was Classic @144k and July was FASA @159k.
If I cannot get there and back on the right dates I go one way QF and the other on SQ.
I love both systems.
QF requires 12 months ahead plan whereas SQ is less than a week.

Thanks, and a lot of time and persistence!

Another couple of things to consider is when given the option of using all points for the JASA vs minimum points & paying some cash is it better to use a few points as possible thereby still having some left over to go towards your next adventure?

Also if you only have enough points to go J one way then Y exit row seat the other way, which sector would you splash out on? The one where you will be awake longer to take advantage of all the culinary delights on offer or the sector where you will sleep the most taking advantge of the skybed?

Spruce, is SYD a transit stop only or can you stopover in SYD for free or pay $150.00 to stop?

The advantage if you can is it allows you a separate trip to AKL doing LAN one way with the return sector AKL/SYD being the first leg of the JASA. That way you can fly SYD/LAX a few weeks later for example as a separate trip.

What about the one where you can drink as much Champagne as possible, and then sleep on a comfortable bed :p

Hi Ozbeachbabe
I'll be very interested in the responses to this query as I have had the exact same questions.

We're planning a JASA one-way trip to the US later next year, hopefully returning in J with AA points.
