What's involved in getting off QF flight in LHR then getting on a BA/TAP Flight?

G'day!

Due to QANTAS weirdness with a Voucher looks like I will have to book QF ADL-LHR then either TAP/BA LHR-LIS.

I've done the trip 3 times already, but never had to collect my baggage or check it in again as it was ticketed all the way by QF. I can't remember seeing carousels at all :D

What is involved in doing this in T3? Do I go through customs?

I can't make head nor tail of the Heathrow maps. ;)

Trying to work out how much time I need.

Rob

Do you have to go to LHR? You could book EK ADL-DXB-LIS on QF codes using a voucher.

I'm not sure what you need to do to transit through LHR as I've never done it. But if you're connecting QF-BA you should be able to get your bags tagged all the way to LIS which would avoid the need to go through customs. I believe there's an airside T3-T5 transfer bus. Allow yourself plenty of time is my advice.

There is no QF codeshare on DXB-LIS but QF can still book you on the EK code for that leg.

I need to get to LHR for my 100% FF bonus, I don't think I can jump off QF9 at DXB and EK it across to LIS because:
a) the conditions seem to imply I have to go all the way to LHR on QF9, and,
b) LIS is not a QF European destination.

How do I tag my bags all the way through if I am booked on two separate tickets? I am new to this.

Just ask them to when you check in - Dr FM did this a few months ago - she had one ticket to LHR flying Qantas and then had booked directly with BA to go to Croatia - she had no trouble getting it checked through. I am pretty sure she still needed to go through security to get into T5 - she had around 2 hours between the flights and she said she needed it.

No problem. You can book luggage through on checkin then transit through T3 to T5 on bus between terminals. No need to get luggage and recheck.

QF codeshare with EK to Madrid, though. You could book on QF code ADL-DXB-MAD and then book Iberia (also oneworld and owned by BA) MAD-LIS perhaps?

I did QF MEL-LHR and BA LHR-LIS earlier this year. The LHR flights both arrived and departed from T3 which was easy. You get out, walk a long way and follow the signs to international connections, clear security again (so if you have any LAGs from the flight you have to give it up), then back into T3 airside and into the lounges/duty free as per usual. Pretty painless procedure and there was no queue at T3 security probably because of the early QF9 arrival time.

If you are connecting to T5 you have to get a bus. The last time I did that was over two years ago with an afternoon arrival which wasn't too bad at the time.
