Went to book day trip in May for AKL-SYD-AKL and wanted the usual early departure and evening return.
QF have scrapped the 18.20 return flight on some days. The starnage thing is that it is not even certain days, but a mishmash. (May Mon 3, Wed 5, Wed 12, Tue 18, Wed 19, Tur 20, Wed 28 )
So if you have a day meeting in Sydney on these days you have to finish in time to make departure of 15.00 or choose another airline. Hello, I am looking at you Air New Zealand with your larger space plus koru club seats.

has anyone heard why QF are abandining the evening flights. Is it a permanent thing?

I have not heard anything but an educated guess would have me say either lack of aircraft availability or lack of bums on the seats previously provided.
