What's class I with QF?

I have a wHY booking on QF12 LAX-SYD on Wed on the 380, with a request for upgrade to J. Normally I see the upgrade result coming through as a Decline or Confirmed around 1.5 days before departure date....

.... Now it's only Sunday evening in California, but my booking has already changed from class S to class I (confirmed, business class, and I can select a J seat upstairs). This puzzles me, because I was expecting class U.

Could anyone please advise me if
1. My now confirmed J seat (class I) is the result of my upgrade request? or

2. I have been given another op-up (which means I should call QF and cancel my request)?

Thank you for your input.
PS: Seatcounter indicates that the flight is oversold in wHY.

I class is generally used by Qantas for paid, heavily discounted business class specials such as the recent 2-for-1 sales. I have never seen it used by Qantas for upgrades.

Have your points been deducted? If not, that might imply its not your upgrade request coming through. Generally, the points are the first to go!

Thank you NM, thank you Timtammi.

Umm... the booking changed again a minute ago. Class I has disappeared, and got replaced by class U (as expected). And it says "Your upgrade from Los Angeles to Sydney has been confirmed."

This is such an early confirm of an upgrade request (no complaint nevertheless). The points haven't been deducted yet though. Perhaps they'll take 72,000 points off on Wednesday.

shhhhhh.. if you are really lucky, the points may not disappear. It does happen sometimes! If they haven't gone already I would be crossing my fingers if I was you!

Cheers

I've just logged on then, and saw that QF had deducted the points :)

ahh well, can't win em all!

Enjoy your J flight, I'm flying MEL-LAX on July 10 and looks like we are in PE seating on a cheapie discount Y ticket so I'm not complaining. But I would rather be in J!

Cheers

PE is still quite awesome, no?

Yes PE is great, especially when you haven't paid for it :D

But on such a long flight I really hanker after that skybed!

Cheers

So I've just had my first J experience with the A380. INCREDIBLE!

It was so much more spacious than 744 J. Impressed by the sky cam, the touch screen for everything, the privacy screen, and the flat bed. The 20-min long massage sessions were enjoyable but unfortunately stopped working mid-flight. The nice CSM did give me a couple of 'shopping spree' vouchers of $50 each :) (to 'compensate' the inconvenience). The flirtatious attendant (or two) made the trip even more intriguing, lol.
