What's AF doing with their A380s?

It returned to JFK but was empty???? Seems an odd way to try and make money!

Air France A380 superjumbo grounded for fourth time

"The first A380 superjumbo operated by Air France was forced to turn back to New York mid-flight yesterday because of a fuelling problem, the plane's fourth glitch in as many months, the airline said.
"The fault involves a problem in the fuel system," an Air France spokeswoman said, confirming that the A380 turned back to New York on Monday morning and was grounded there.
The plane had no passengers on board at the time and was returning to Paris for servicing, she added."

"The company has a second A380 in service on its route from Paris to Johannesburg and has ordered 10 more."

From memory yes, that said, most new aircraft have some degree of teething...

The very first paid pax scheduled B747 flight had issues and they needed to swap planes with another B747 (which was meant to be making the second scheduled B747 flight) as the first one had an overheating problem which they couldn't fix in time.

Makes it very hard to swap planes when you only have the one, as is the puzzling case with AF, two routes for the A380 with one plane on each?? Cest La Vie.

My understanding is that as the fuel tanks were ready on schedule they were sat on the ground at Toulouse for 2 years waiting for the rest of teh aircraft to be ready and he tanks degraded.

The words "on schedule" don't seem to get used anywhere near oftan enough these days when talking about building new planes...

I'm guessing these are A380 problems that are cropping up rather than AF problems (or AF A380 specific problems).

In any case, what are AF doing with their A380s? From the first pictures, they don't look all that exciting. I think where QF put a small lounge area, AF put some sort of gallery area.

I thought that it was something like a bug in the fuel tanks.
