So fellow AFF's, what would you like to see on Virgin's new IFE system when it is rolled out?

My list:-
- AVOD
- Seat back
- Big Screen, take up the whole seat back
- Loads of Music Channels, TV Channels, Foxtel, Movies and games!! However in economy i would charge for movies.
- Order your food from the touch of a button. If paying fd=or your food by credit card, have a credit card slot next to the screen.
- Do a feedback/suggestion tab before you land to improve service.
- Seat to Seat Chat
- USB Ports
- In seat power for portable devices

Basically i would like red, but bigger screen, more up to date software and more features! That will woo business travellers.

So this is what i would like to see on the new IFE system. I just hope the new one is not portable, its very LCC, and it would take forever to give out. Seat back is more Premium, and we definitely got to have AVOD!

So what would you like to see?

Jack

Sorry, but I am a big fan of the Fox Sports channels. Watching the footy on a flight from PER to MEL last Saturday night was very nice.

Having not been qualified to answer this question :p for many, many years I guess if you have to ask you probably aren't ready to see it.
Hahaha! You just got to spice it up with some VA spirit :p. Don't start teasing me!!! ;)

The only thing I really want is in-seat power fr portable devices. The rest I couldnt care about.

Most business travelers couldn't care about this at all

They will sit on their blackberry, iPhone, iPad or other device and do what they need to do

Why charge for movies?? that goes back to the whole LCC of charging for everything!

The IFE on the QF A330's running Dom are damn good. TV shows and some movies.

Seat ordering wouldn't work well on short haul as they barely have enough time to walk down with the trolley.. good idea for long haul though.

I agree, movies should be included - however, Virgin America has seat back ordering for domestic, even on shorter routes such as LAX-SFO.

I mean for shorthaul. Well when you go down the isle with the trolley, does everyone get something? It takes more time to go down the isle then to serve the people that actually want an item. Or maybe they can order there food before takeoff, and then the crew can hand them out. If they diddnt charge at all for any items in ife, how would they make money? On short haul, i would leave 2 or 3 movies free, others be paid. Business class/flexi ticket- unlimited. But thats my thoughts, we are all free to have our own opinions. :)

I'd say 80-90% of people on flights I take, people will take something off the trolley. I think it would get messy for Virgin trying to work out free meals and hand them out and people buying stuff..

I think Virgin should dump the LCC approach if they want to go upmarket more. at the moment they are only halfway there, but add on pricing for basic things won't win them too much of the corporate market. You want to be able to just buy any ticket and it's included.. but that is my opinion coming from the corporate end for 90% of my travel.

My assumption, is that corporate accounts are - or soon will be - flexi tickets by default so that makes it a bit of a non issue providing you book through a corporate account. Could be wrong about that but it seems the obvious direction to go on when trying to lure major contracts.

Personally, i have no problem with the hybrid model. I don't want to pay for things i'm not using and that's in the ticket price whether it's explicit or not.

Virgin wants to allow customers to choose if they want to have a fare with all trimmings included or choose what they want.

Thus: Saver, Flexi, and Premium fares.

Saver is discount economy including the seat and in flight entertainment

Flexi is flexible economy with all the trimmings, food/ife/luggage etc

Premium is Business or PE

I like this approach it gives more choice and allows Virgin to still offer competitive low end fares for those who don't care about extras and just want to get somewhere cheap.

That still gives you a LCC feel. Not a full service carrier.

Having a surly woman throw a muffin or apple at me in a 20 year old 767 is not high on my list of defining features of "full service." I'd prioritise a lot else and i'd prefer not to pay extra for it if i'm not going to use it.

And as we have already discussed the 767's were supposed to be retired by now.. having said that I will still fly one over any 737, including the new DJ's one. And I've never had a rude FA in recent memory, in fact i've found them to be nice and pleasant.

each to their own though, but charging for extras is a LCC legacy..

The point is that you pay for it. It's either built into the ticket cost of everyone or only the people who want it pay for it. I don't want it and from the number of uneaten or unwanted muffins on a QF flight a lot of people don't want it - particularly on short sectors. I personally don't see the point so i'd prefer not to have an extra few bucks added to my ticket cost to pay for it.

For the corporate accounts, for those who value it, and for myself on longer flights i appreciate having the option but i'm actually against paying may for every ticket to pay for it.

As you said "each to their own" - except if you bundle it at everyone has no choice but to pay for it anyway it isn't.

Can we all stop whining and get back on topic please. WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO SEE ON THE NEW IFE SYSTEM- not talking about muffins.
