Hi all, we are pencilling in a cruise from Rome to Miami in Nov. Now we would like to spend Christmas in New York (a cliche i know but hey why not) and see a bit of America etc. Now, the problem is MrsGurio doesnt want a flight over 12 hrs, which basically means we have to country hop. so i was thinking something along the lines of

HBA-SYD-HKG-FCOxMIA-JFK-LAX-AKL(or NRT)-SYD-HBA

FCO-MIA is the cruise and so therefore has to be a land segment. We would like to do all of our travelling and sightseeing after the cruise and not before due to work commitments...

Now i know it isnt really maxing things out but lets iron the bugs out before we get ahead of ourselves...

Now does that fit into a DCIRCxx or a DONE4 (are any of those available in economy and what is the price difference?)

You cannot use a ATW since you must cross the Atlantic Ocean and cannot have trans-oceanic surface sectors in the OneWord Explorer or OneWorld Global Explorer fares.

You cannot use a Circle Pacific fare since it cannot get you to Europe, only SW Pacific, Asia and North America (and South America if using the xCIR29SA fare).

potentially you could do a paid flight back to FCO (or perhaps LHR) from MIA, and then be able to do a ATW type ticket.

I believe BA has some pretty cheap fares, and an award with Qantas (one way) would be pretty cheap points/$ wise.

There are economy versions available of the various circle/ATW products. Normally these start with L instead of D (business) or A (First). Such as LONE4.

From the current xONEx rules:

(g) Intermediate surface sectors are permitted at the passenger’s expense. Transoceanic surface sectors between TC1-TC2 and TC1-TC3 are not permitted.
EXCEPTION: For travel originating in the South West Pacific, one transoceanic surface sector between TC1-TC2 or TC1-TC3 is permitted.

This implies that all xONEx's can have a Transoceanic surface sector betwixt Africa/Europe (TC2) and Asia/SWP (TC3).

More to the point, xONEx's commencing in SWP (Oz/NZ etc) specifically can actually have a "Transoceanic surface sector" between Florida and Italy, as in the OP's case.

I do believe this particular part in the rules has changed in the last year or so.
