What to wear in J class

Regardless of weather where I'm going I also always travel with a warm jacket in my carry on (think about it).

Will have to do this in December, going home for Christmas, so from SYD summer to BRU winter, last year they had -15 at my parent's place

The last time I visited my mum for Christmas (QLD, 2010), I got so sick of the non-stop rain I changed my flight and flew back home. Little did I know the flooding would commence shortly after.

I spent last Christmas cruising around NZ for 17 days. No idea what I'm doing this year, but as my family are in AU it will be a summer Christmas :)

-15 could be a nice change.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I think I'll wear jeans or slacks and a nice shirt, and pack a track suit in carry on to sleep in.

Hey, give me a break! This will be likely our only long haul J flight. We've got seven kids, and are almost perpetually broke, so this is one of the few times we can pretend we are privileged. :)

Okay, perpetually broke is an exaggeration, but we don't want to look like bogans.

Seven??? And you still manage to be sensitive to dress fashion on a J flight? I salute you :)

Maybe (probably) I'm obsessive. I will usually wear jeans and my 'lucky travel shirts'. These are wonderful cotton shirts by Thomas Pink in London. They are just the right weight so that you are good with the temperature differences you experience traveling around, you can sleep in one and it still looks good - and nothing ever goes wrong when you wear one!

I am a massive fan of Thomas Pink shirts for travel. The Traveler range is very good, lightweight, easy to iron and still look good when you step off a long flight.

I tend to do long haul in Y+ or J either in a polo shirt with jeans / slacks and slip on deck type shoes.

In J - I will change into PJ's as soon as they have been handed out by the aircrew. (Does Etihad provide PJ's?). Nothing worse than de-boarding after 12 or 14 hours in the same pants and shirt I have slept in!

+1 for the polo shirts. Always travel with a black one. But yesterday leaving Hawaii I just had to go with a large and bright Hawaiian shirt. Sort of fit the moment. But prior to end of flight quietly changed into another fresh black polo :)

I travel in what I'm comfortable in regardless of travel class - that's usually jeans and a polo shirt. I don't get changed into PJs until I'm ready to sleep, and I change back either just before the breakfast service commences or soon after.

I now always travel with a reasonable jacket, or fleecey top.

About a dozen years back we were flying back via SIN from Thailand to MEL in summer with a longish layover at the airport overnight with no lounge access (Ansett had folded and my Diamond status was also lost).

We had opted to travel light due to the layover, and had checked our clothes through in the hold baggage.

What we did not allow for was that the air-conditioning in the terminal was extremely chilly in the late hours and so trying to snooze in basically just dresses and shirts was most uncomfortable!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks agin for the useful comments. One of the issues is that we'll be leaving Melbourne in the heat (mid March) transit in the desert, and landing in London in 5C or so.

Anyway, this has been a tongue in cheek thread. I doubt we'll be travelling J class ever again, and by hell, are we looking forward to it.

Then make the most of it. I hope you enjoy every minute.

Generally when I travel I dress comfortable and appropriate to the weather at the destination.

If it is partial over night/day flight.

I will have jeans packed and also shirts as well with slide on and also a pair of enclosed shoes as well.

I will utilise the lounges so I have a shower and a change again.

Some times when I have travelled OS I have landed and been straight to meetings.

I wear smart casual in the terminal/lounge etc, and then at the earliest opportunity after boarding, whether at the gate or after the seat belt sign goes off, I change into PJ's. I have been lucky to have not flown Y for the past 10 years (with the exception of short domestic flights) so take and change into my QF PJ's even if they do not provide them. That way, after changing back into my normal clothes I feel decent, albeit slightly knackered physically. I don't worry or take offence to what anyone wears as long as it is not offensive etc. The whole idea is to be comfortable whilst at the same time locked in a pressurised tube for 14 plus hours.

Simple, wear the same clothes you would have worn in Y class. No need to dress differently because of the class of travel.

Personally I travel light and casual most of the time. Shorts and t-shirt as most of my international travel tends to be to warm climates. Jeans, t-shirt and maybe a jacket for colder climates. If I have been working on the day of the flight I'll usually be dressed up if I have the time I'll usually change into something more casual at the airport lounge.

Plane travel used to be so classy.....not any more cause anyone can afford to travel. People would dress neat and tidy no....not any more. Some of the way I have seen people dress in all classes amazes me. Some look like they are going to the beach or just got out of bed. I suggest look neat and be comfortable. Try to bring some class back into travel again.:D
