What do you do with 60 bottles of cheap wine? I have a few dozen of various cheap wines (eg maverick) that were good on purchase, that I bought a few years ago. They’re sitting in my cellar, but I always go for something nicer, so I’m probably now going to throw them out after only having a few bottles. Normally an average wine gets worse with age.

I wouldn't call clarendon hills hickinbotham wines cheap wine. It should be better than pepperjack I hope.;)Anyway it's all relative and I'm still young and poor to learn. I need some of these for annual BBQ gatherings too. Also 60 bottles are not a lot - it's 2014 so will last for another 3+ years. Pretty happy with this "cheap wine" unless I really hate it with the first bottle.

Definately. Always serve cheap wine to guests a don’t buy comfortable BBQ furniture or they will stay far too long. They will generally bring wines to match or be worse than your wine anyway. :)

I have some that came in mixed dozens and I won't drink them so I also wonder what to do with them. I probably need to meet some young uni students that will drink anything

@jrod could donate them to his nearest uni residential college or pick a favourite faculty social club.

I plan to leave some of the good and the bad to my beneficiaries. Currently about 1000 plus but I don’t bother counting. Have been drinking the MossWood,, Cullens and some of the French bubbles. I probably should get into the Grange before my use by date expires.
Some of my rubbish needs to be used in cooking.....

Im not a wine drinker (allergic to something in it, not that we can pin down what!) ...but Im curious.... it seems that "cheap" is being used here as a synonym for "lousy".... I thought that was not necessarily the case?

Drink it quickly, then move on....

Unless you are from a rich family, there is no such thing as bad wine. Just good wine and average wine

😁

Sulphites is the common one. My wife is hellishly allergic to them. And whilst it’s a shame not to be able to split a nice bottle of red; We drink Sake, Whiskey and Gin together so it’s not that much of a hardship.

Which Maverick do you have - I have found mine (GSM, Cab and Cab blend) to still be improving

If the wines are in a good state, just not to your liking, send them to auction and recoup some money.

Hopefully you just mean cheap, not cheap and bad; if so here are some ideas:

  • Make a huge batch of red wine jus, then freeze it.
  • Make a huge batch of pasta sauce then freeze it.
  • Make some red wine vinegar.
  • Buy some tapas style food and host a Sangria or tinto de verano day while the weather is still warm.
  • Host a 'cheap' wine day where everyone is restricted to bring the best bottle under $X.
  • Presents to work colleagues / distant relatives.
  • Recreate the elevator scene from 'The Shining'.
  • Make some mulled / spiced wine (wait until winter).
  • Conduct your own mini-wine experiments with friends (e.g. open bottles of the same wine for 3 days, 2 days, 1 day and freshly cracked to see what effect this has on the wine).

Rubbish wine I throw out. Many a poor bottle's contents has been used to sanitise my drainage system.

The sad part is that rubbish does not necessarily equate with cheap.
