Edit: Just read your second post about being an original member ... I joined in the early 2000's, so I guess this offer is gonna miss me :(
If this offer gets the results QF wants its quite possible that they could extend this to other passengers in the future. Obviously they would want to control and limit how many people they give such a comp to at a time.

QF loyalty works in very mysterious ways. I emailed them asking if I can do a "status challenge" to achieve Gold or Platinum and they said no, even though I'm WP with VA and about to hit my requalification within four months of my membership year (sent them my last two years of flying history) and was about to make 3 x domestic and 1 x international booking.

QF gave me a status challenge last year, but they suggested I go for the Gold option, as they weren't convinced I'd be able to achieve Platinum with QF. I was surprised, as I had earned something like 5,500 Velocity SCs over the previous 3 years. They said they consider Velocity Platinum to be pretty much equivalent to QF Gold. It seems that when they evaluate your travel history, they exclude any SCs acquired through Family Pooling and adjust SCs according to QFF earn rates. For example, I had taken a few J trips to Europe with EY. Those trips typically earn 560 SCs with Velocity (rtn), but a similar trip with a OW partner would only earn about 280 QFF SCs. At least that's how I understood their process.

If you adjusted your SC earn rate along those lines, would you still earn >700 SCs per year? If not, that might have been the reason for rejection.

I was rejected a status match today, but then requested the possibility of a challenge and was advised by email it was accepted, but no details. I'm waiting a call back to find out what is offered.

I'd definitely be in the camp you describe above though. 1000-1500 SC's a year, 25% through pooling, a lot through SQ semi-flex fares that earn great SC's, and flying MH or other QF partners probably wouldn't get me much. It will be tough for me to maintain QF if I can meet the challenge and thats one reason I've stuck with VA for a while.

I'm guessing you will be offered the Gold challenge too, but you might also get the choice if you push. Gold required 200 SCs, while Platinum required 400 SCs - in both cases within 90 days (from a start date of my choosing), and only QF codes were eligible.

I actually decided to take their advice and go for Gold on the grounds that it would get me lounge access etc quicker, and I also wasn't totally sure I'd get 400 SCs with QF in 90 days. I ended up getting Gold quite quickly and then qualifying for Platinum the normal way about 6 months later.

OK - I don't think I'd realistically hit 400 in 90 days, but 200 in 90 is definitely doable. I was hoping it would be pilot gold through the trial though - sounds like no?
And what are the chances of 75 sc's from an ANZ card counting towards the 200? Am I dreaming?!

Definitely no pilot gold or equivalent, and definitely dreaming about the ANZ card SCs counting I'm afraid! Double SC promotions etc also don't count - it's a straight up 200 SCs earned BIS on QF codes. At least this was the case for me.

Well I retired 11 years ago.Bought life QP 25 years ago and in FF scheme a few years before that.
QFF have recfently given me the status I have had for most of that time-Bronze.:oops::eek:

Would seem well deserved to me with the membeship longevity!
I've been QFF since 94, and for a lot of those years was WP.
Retired a few years back also, and soft-landed to LTG as I qualified for WP in the previouls year before I retired making it a soft landing..:)
With the relatively infrequent domestic flight these days, and international flights every couple of years, LTG works well for me in retirement and I appreciate it!
Off next year to Europe to spend the QFF points I've accumulated, on some EK & QF flights in F on the basis of 'use or lose' so will get to lap up the F lounges again (albeit briefly!) :D
 
Put this on another thread but I will be short and it is relevant. Comped to Gold this year despite being well short of reqd credits. 7 years legit Gold and one year 1250 or so, within one confect d credits J flight of Plat if I had bothered.

Your circs are different, bur think it is just, overall, QF recognising that they have competition out there, and that little touches like these enhance loyalty. It works; I am grateful ( for the "free" QP that comes with Gold), and I will be sticking. And this will be another close to Plat year for me, so QF is the winner. Little leprechaun is not stupid!
 
If you dont have enough status credits for current yr to keep platinum/gold/silver, Qantas will consider your average status credits over last 3yrs to determine your status.

Still think about Lufthansa's not published Lifetime Status. You need to be over 60 to get it. People at that age usually reduce the number of flights, but still have money to travel. So they are an interesting target group. Maybe an idea for a lifetime Platinum. (28k SC and over 60).

It's an undefined benefit and a one off thing so you can't rely on it.
 
Hi guys, my first post here! Hope to spend more time on the forum to gain from your experiences and playing the game! A question about life time membership. I bought a lifetime membership to the Qantas Club in 1998. I have recently discovered this is not life, for memory to the age or 60 or 65. I am currently lifetime Silver and hope to be gold in next 2-3 years. For tier status is it truly lifelong unlike the Qantas Club? Gazzab
 
Where did you hear that? That doesn't sound right. I'm pretty sure lifetime means lifetime, not to retirement age.

Lifetime status is truly lifelong and Lifetime Gold has all the benefits of QANTAS Club plus more for life e.g. Lifetime Gold will get you into lounges on Oneworld partner flights without having to book on a QF flight number (if there is even one available for that flight). So if you travel economy or premium economy on international flights this is a big benefit over QANTAS Club as you'll have greater choice of who you fly without having to give up your lounge access. Then there's other things as well like priority boarding etc.
