US entry: Being a "trusted traveler" e.g. Global Entry, Nexus, Sentri etc does not mean you are allowed in the US without immigration control. It may appear so a lot of the time, but in practice you can and will be taken aside for questioning at random.
That's a good point, and the comment 'without immigration control' is misleading because the computerised gates that allow you to enter under these programs are the primary form of control anyway. Of course it's being controlled, and if there is some particular reason that CPB decides to flag you - the gate will do so and you will be taken aside (just as with the Australian smartgates and any other such systems in use around the world).

Good luck with getting an interview in 6 months time. Last year had a 3 month waiting period before I got my interview.

Got to experience QF TSA Pre at LAX yesterday evening. I was in a party of 5 family. I get it because of GE but was pleasantly surprised to see that the other 4 pax on the booking also got it too.
The usual SNAFU at TSA in the regular lines in the evening but we zipped through with zero delays.

So it seems that for some reason TSApre still does not print on the BP for QF11/12 JFK-LAX domestic segment even though it appears on the LAX-Australia segment. Hopefully this gets fixed in the near future. Security at JFK T8 can be very slow. I guess it's better to book AA flight instead of QF12 until this is resolved.

There is a separate line for approved ?
Though I had it on my ticket I just joined the regular queue .
Due to go back in a few weeks will be interesting to see if I get the approval...the SSSS or nothing :)

It depends on the checkpoint.
Checkpoints with an official precheck lane have the full precheck experience (shoes on, WTMD, liquids/laptops in bags). A separate precheck lane is normally near the premium lanes.
Checkpoints without a separate lane normally have precheck confirmed travelers in the normal lanes, then get 'precheck lite' when they get to the front. What 'precheck lite' is varies at any given checkpoint.

I didn't think the checkpoints in LAX TBIT had precheck lanes.

Here you can find the list of TSApre checkpoints including hours of operation:

I'm surprised you were not redirected to TSApre Lane by the TSA agent checking your documents.

Having GE did some travels domestically with folks. So long as all party travelling with you are on same PNR (as GE/TSA PRE holder) they all get TSA Pre on BP. For land boarder crossing GE holder can use Nexus Lane & no other pax, unless they all have applied for Nexus, TSA pre etc...

Were you able to enter your KTN on your Qantas booking, or did you have to wait until check-in?

Since mid-December there is a KTN field when using QF OLCI. The field is not available in MMB, only during check in.
Your TA can input your KTN in your booking also.
