Hi All,

I am really grappling with a difficult decision on whether or not to go for Platinum QFF. I am London based for the next 18 months till returning to Aus and travelling internationally every 3 weeks approximately from LHR.

I would incorporate this flying into a small holiday but the overall cost of flights to hit Platinum is $1597.

My trip would consist of:

Award flights LHR - CAI
Qatar First & Business - CAI - PHL Return
Award flights CAI - LHR

I am sure everyone has seen all the promotions but essentially with the 10% off with Mastercard it becomes a very attractive deal and works out at $2.56 per SC.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated?

If you have the time and money then why not? It at least guarantees you Gold for the following year. Plenty of others have spent far more to achieve the same thing. It might be difficult to justify the cost based on return on investment but it makes some people happy just knowing that they have that Platinum card in their wallet. Personal choice at the end of the day.

I agree. If it is an easy option then worth the cost IMHO.

As others have said - only you can decide.

Me? $1597 for approx 536SCs - I'd snatch your hand off - but then I could probably better utilize the QF-specific WP benefits more than being UK based (being 18months before your return to Oz, I can't see this influencing your decision at all).

How much of your future flying from LHR is OW or EK based - that will probably help determine the worth.

BD

If you are flying OW out of LHR every 3 weeks and have the cash then this is an absolute no-brainer.
Do it......

With flying every three weeks, that is definitely worth it.

I'm spending about $1600 getting WP in August (start of my membership year). That will give me 23 month Platinum and then 12 month of Gold. In another words similar price of Qantas Club for 3 years.

Now that is an interesting way of looking at it! Pity I'm nowhere near even silver this year, never mind gold.

Would love to hear the details: 1200 SCs for $1600 ... there's got to be some double-dipping of offers, Business Rewards ... ??

Has Platinum status become that cheap? Oh dear. No wonder Qantas wants to merge Gold/Platinum into Gold.
