What I ate today - the food thread

Back to Pune for another meal report. George, a roadside diner/eatery, focusing on N Indian and Persian food.

Bustling, noisy, hot, crowded, fun, tasty, spicy, friendly, quick - and all round excellent experience.

Simpler, late night hotel food for final night in Pune.

Seekh kebab. ( A staple of mine!).
IMG_6346.jpeg
Fried fish.

Kati roll. With spiced chicken and egg. Would have been a good breakfast wrap!

Not a patch on previous meals but filled the need after another tiring but excellent day.

The Plaza Premium Lounge in Vancouver has a new First Class section (opened Nov 2025).

We were able to access flying J with BA.

For those with Amex Platinum, and therefore Plaza Premium access, you’ll be directed to the “regular” lounge, but can upgrade to the First lounge for CAD30.

In addition to a small buffet and bar service there is also a la carte dining which includes a range of coughtails.

Both Mrs H and I had a Hemingway Daquiri.

IMG_6922.jpeg

Miss H had the C Sunrise Booster which came with a festive embellishment.

The dining menu:

The girls started by sharing a charcuterie board.

IMG_6924.jpeg

I had the Tuna Tataki which was excellent.

IMG_6925.jpeg

Mrs H had the short ribs but said they were just okay.

IMG_6926.jpeg

The lounge also offers a daily off-menu special.

It doesn’t seem this is proactively offered and had I not known to asked I probably would have missed out.

For Christmas it was Beef Wellington.

I’m pleased to report I survived.

Even as someone who likes medium-rare, this was a bit under-done for me.

IMG_6934.jpeg

For dessert I had fruit from the buffet while proclaiming the health benefits.

These were the other options:

Tuna was the standout from this menu along with the Hemingway Daquiri.

Lunch with our oldest friends on the Coast. He is 87 and not in good health. We shared an entree of coconut prawns and 4 mains- pad Thai with chicken. Panang chicken curry, beef in satay sauce and beef with ginger and shallots.
I wasn’t quick enough with the photos.

And I had a beer.

We think this is the best Thai restaurant south of Kawana on the Coast. Love you Long Thai. Run by an Australian fellow and his Thai wife. He is the cook.

Mini lounge crawl at LHR T3.

Started in QF with a coughtail, then to CX F lounge.

IMG_6946.jpeg

Mrs H had some dumplings while I had the Miso Salmon and a Cathy Delight.

My status only allowed one guest so Miss H was relegated to a different lounge.

I recommended CX J where several of the F menu items were available from the noodle bar.

But she opted for the BA F lounge because they had several very large jars of pick ‘n’ mix lollies with paper bags inviting people to fill up.

The BA F lounge menu for the record (we didn’t have anything).

IMG_6948.jpeg

Then it was back to the QF lounge where the S&P squid was delicious with a good serve of chilli.

IMG_6956.jpeg

For dessert, chocolate mousse.

Nicely presented.
