What I ate today - the food thread

Today in Zaragoza we had a late lunch at this place.

They explained with a little help from the Apple translator that all dishes were share plates. We love that way of eating. We had a ham plate, beef tartare with borage ice cream And beef ribs with potatoes. The first 2 dishes were excellent. The ribs were tender and tasty but a little dry. I do recommend this place.

Lovely restaurant indeed. Remember it well! Their wines are very good as well.

But, can you pronounce the name of the town?

Are you going to Haró to do some wine tasting at, for example, CUNE?

A very good buffet breakfast at the Marques de Riscal this morning.

No we are off to another Gehry building in Bilbao tomorrow.

Our evening meal in Sachsenhausen - a southern riverside suburb of Frankfurt known for 'Apfelwein' restaurants. I can actually take or leave the apfelwein actually. The first place we have run across so far that only wanted cash.

We ate at the Affentor Schanke (Monkey tavern)

We shared the starter of Sour milk cheese with music. Tasted better than I thought. The onions were not at all sharp'

My wife had the Beef Patties

I had the local specialty - Green Sauce with a schnitzel

@OZDUCK

You are just toying with us by posting that menu! How was the green sauce? I hope it lived up to your expectations.

This time I had several cases of cash only, one could have been an issue as it was the last night and I was running low, and it was late, this was at the Armenian run Greek restaurant, maybe I was going to have to do the dishes.

Also credit card usage has increased in the former East Germany, when we went the first time even a lot of big shops wouldn’t take them, debit cards were ok though.

The green sauce was very nice. Slightly sweet with a refreshing taste. We ate at a Greek run restaurant and I was mentally calculating what to order in case they only took cash. In fact they were happy to take a card. From my reading of that Frankfurt restaurant's menu they would take a card if there was group of 10 or more people.

Our local friend has since advised us that it was one of the best Apfelwine places.

Last night were were too tired to bother with much thought so we just hopped on the first tram we walked past and rode it into the suburbs until we saw somewhere interesting. We jumped off next to what appeared to be a lively local hotel. It was mainly serving Greek food and it was very busy. As you will shortly see the servings were huge and many of the patrons departed with doggy bags - we would have too if it had been feasible. There was no English menu and basically no English spoken.

First off we were both served a bowl of salad plus bread.

My wife ordered Roterfish 14.90 Euro. She really enjoyed it and the bit I tried was very nice. The fish was just floured and lightly fried.

I ordered what turned out to be a Greek Mixed Grill - 17.90 Euro. There is also about 1/2 kg of Lamb Gyros hiding under the lamb chop, chicken breast, and beef patties. The chicken was the least of the meats being a little dry and tough. The beef was lightly cooked and very succulent. The lamb chop was one of the best I have ever had. The only problem was the amount of meat. I did not finish all the gyros and chips.

I asked for a Dusseldorf Beer and got served this. It was a nice 'Old' style beer.

All up, including the complimentary glasses of Ouzo and the 10% tip it cost around 41 Euro.

Lunch at one of these restaurants on the Rhine Promenade in Dusseldorf - this photo was taken the previous evening. Both meals were very nice.

My wife had the Gosch-Teller

And I had had the Labskaus - the Labskaus portion turned out to be some sort of corned beef mash.

This evenings meal in a restaurant a little outside the centre of Muenster to avoid the crowds seen in my latest post in the Views from my Office thread.

My wife had Grilled Salmon followed by Tiramisu. I had a 250 gm Flank Steak followed by Crema Catalana - we had already shared some vegetables and potatoes before the photos.. We ate outside in a pleasant little garden setting that was threatened to be marred only by the incessant cigarette smoke. Luckily the owner moved us to a spot with clean air. As far as I can see you can't smoke indoors at a restaurant etc but can smoke anywhere outside including around people eating.

I had two 1/2 litre beers and my wife had a 1/2 litre soft drink. It came to 70 Euro including tip. All of it was delicious.

I had already cracked the sugar 'shell'.

I asked about people smoking and was told as you guessed, not allowed indoors, but ok outside. Fortunately I was far enough away not to be bothered by it, still annoying though!
