Looking at some forward bookings in June and beyond, noticed that QF25/QF26 is no longer a MEL/AKL/LAX and is being replaced by a Jetconnect service to Auckland only.
QF25 is showing at dep Melb @ 06:00. There is also another (third) Jetconnect service at 16:10. First 2 flights on 737-400 with the last service QF133 on a 737-300.

Has the A380 MEL/LAX killed off the 747-400 service via AKL?

I like the QF25/26 combination with 'true' international service, AVOD, good upgrade opportunities etc.
I will miss it,:(

Me as well. Never missed an upgrade MEL-AKL on points to C.

QF25 AKL-LAX still exists with a B747 departing AKL 13:30 and arriving LAX 06:25. QF25 will have 2 dfferent aircraft type: MEL-AKL on a B737 connecting to AKL-LAX on B747-400 (both called QF25)

Yes this change whilst expected as I heard it on the grapevine a few weeks ago is a sad day for QF. I guess it was required to keep competitive but I will have to try to limit my NZ trips as flying OS on a 737 just does not seem right IMO. I guess I still get to enjoy the F lounge. It is interesting to note that a 737 will carry somewhere between 150-180 passengers, so that must mean on a typical QF25 MEL-AKL service in the past this many or less passengers ever continued their journey to LAX? I wonder what their loads will be like on the AKL-LAX leg. IT still might be a good leg to consider for Upgrade oppurtunities.

This will be quite an annoying change for some.

To fly mel-lax on QF25, the flight leaves Melbourne at 6am rather than the more leisurely 10:50am. A 6am international flight is a wake up nightmare!

On the way back there is a 5.5 hour wait at AKL airport!!

Upgrades (points requested) on this flight will all but disappear from MEL-LAX-MEL pax because of the tiny plane (comparatively) MEL-AKL-MEL.

For those travelling in economy (and J), QF25 was a nice way to fly - lunch out of Melbourne, Dinner out of Auckland and Breakfast into LAX.

It will be better to travel through SYD for those who can't get onto QF93/94 direct service MEL-LAX-MEL

I meant I reckon upgrade chances from AKL-LAX-AKL will be good if less people use this route due to aircraft change.

Interesting note, I did a dummy booking for Oct and the QF25 showed as leaving at 5am from MEL and showed up as a 737 all the way to LAX which is obviously a web issue with QF as a 737 cannot get from AKL to LAX without at least stopping at least once.

I think it's been re-timed to make sure you can get the connection to JFK, currently it arrives too late.

This was announced several weeks ago; along with JQ taking over QF's domestic NZ routes.

Also, 737's will be operating several NZ/SYD flights (e.g. QF114).

I just came across this in making a booking today. Obviously it doesn't take into account the plane change in Auckland but it could terrify some who don't know.
