What happens when hotel pushes back opening date?

So I've booked a Curio in London. Now the hotel has closed off bookings for the period I originally booked for and instead shows a notification saying bookings are now accepted a week later of 31 July.

My original booking is still there. Wondering when the hotel will actually contact me about my booking or are they trying to see if they can open earlier?

I've made another reservation at another hotel just in case.
 
I don't know. But keep in mind they may keep your booking as part of a soft opening. Or they might not.
 
Backup booking is a good idea. Hotel is unlikely to find alternative accomm for you and will just cancel if they are not ready.

Yeah both bookings are semi-flex, so have 3 days before check in to cancel.
 
I would be surprised if a hotel would just cancel out your booking like that as the whole point of a hotel reservation is to reserve a room for you. At a minimum, I would expect the hotel to "walk" you to another Hilton hotel of comparable quality with you likely being comped points for the inconvenience. You wouldn't pay extra for the accommodation.

Am I missing something here?

Unfortunately, from what I've read on Flyertalk about these sorts of situations, unlikely they will do this. But you never know. If the hotel owner owns other hotels in the area, they might, but if they don't, it's an excellent idea to have a backup booking.
