Due to a change of job I rarely fly QF because they book close to travel time and take the cheapest fares. I am already on the "grace" year of Platinum because I fell 100 credits short in January - they asked me to provide an expected flight schedule and I did which meant they extended my Platinum status for another 12 months.

Currently I have 90 status credits so I have no chance of making the requirement for Platinum or even Gold next renewal. Will I go immediately down to Bronze/Silver level as I have been told you only move down one FF level each year you don't make the required points. Given my situation though I'm not expecting any favours :)

I'm hoping I will be able to buy QC membership with no joining fee when I drop down to lower status - I joined 4 years ago but since have been Gold or Platinum so haven't had to pay for renewal.

Thanks for any advice.

As long as you have 4 QF flights in this membership year you will spend the year at gold... then you will be sent to silver at which time if they still do what happens today it seems you will be offered 3 months of QP access and you have the option to renew without joining fee it seems.

Thanks guys appreciate the info. Now I just need the company to get better organised so QFs are competitive and I might retain Gold :-|

If you do not make the 4 QF flights for the year do you lose all status or do you still only drop down one level?

Is this new?

Didnt think this 4 sector rule extended to maintaining status in a soft landing.

Sorry can't confirm as a fact, only repeating what i have heard apparently has happened to somebody on FT.
But would be wise to try for 4 sectors i would think if its possible and it sounds like it could be for the OP.

This gradual drop WP->SG->PS->NB is termed a 'soft landing'.

As for the four segments and a soft-landing , I am not aware anyone has posted experiences on this having < 4 segments.

I guess if you are WP or SG, then 4 segments isnt gonna be an issue if your actively trying to make the status again.

But it would really really suck if I actively avoided travel to the point of not having 4 segments and not falling back to SG.

Hi All

Having traveled only 2 segments in the previous year
I have been bumped down from partner gold to ps, but the interesting thing is my profile now says ( Qantas Club Silver)?

sgt.sweetchuck,

Welcome to AFF. :D

Did you have paid QP membership prior to getting complementry membership :?:

Thanks straitman

Nah,didn't have QP membership previously.

My wife also got automatically comped back to WP with little travel in the previous year(maternity leave).

Happy days for her!

There are several reports from those dropping from gold to silver that you get 3 months complimentary QP membership. Perhaps this is what has happened

I hope this is the case for sgt.sweetchuck. I have no other suggestions.

Hey All,

After completing my 4th Segment with Qantas this year last week, I got no way near requalifying for my Gold. However this appeared on my statement:

TIER RETAIN BONUS STATUS CREDITS 50

I was expecting to go down to Silver at the end of the month after not doing enough SC earn this year on QF metal. (Singapore Airlines has been the airline of choice lately)

Current Status:Gold Status reassessment will occur:30 Sep 2009Statua Credits earned from 01 Oct 2007:230Additional Status credits required by 30 Sep 2008 to attain Platinum: 1,170

They have given you a 50SC "helping hand", but you still will need to earn the 600 SC's to keep Gold.

You sure about that? the next status reassessment date is Sep 2009 according to the post you quoted. If that's the case, then OP's 230 SCs will reset to 0 on 1st October 2008, but they'll still be Gold through to September 2009.

Congratulations. You have been comped Gold status for another year.

It has been noted in the past that QF normally comp status around 2 months before the reassessment date if it looks like you are not going to make it....

Yes this happened with me, reassessment date was 31/7, so back at 31/5 with 800 SC's I was comped to WP again, with note that as I would be short they valued my custom and I could continue as WP, hoever all they had to do was look at my future bookings and see I 540 SC's in June and July, so was getting there under my own steam anyway
