I have just booked a JASA Canberra to Melbourne to Auckland.

I live in Canberra, but I have to be in Melbourne the day before my flight to Auckland.

i booked the JASA CAN-MEL-AKL as it was 100,000 points less than any available MEL-AKl JASA.

Now, two questions:

one: what happens if I don't fly the first sector. CAN-MEL? Can I just check in for the MEl-AKL at the MEL airport and "burn" the first sector?

two: could I get the first sector changed to the day before? I can't seem to change the flights online.

Thanks.

Ring the service centre and get them to change it, dont burn 40 SC!

If you don't fly the first leg don't they cancel all subsequent flights?

1. if you skip a segment expect the remainder of it to be cancelled.

2. depends on the fare rules but unlikely - I suspect what you have booked is a MEL transit only - it may be possible to get a flight the previous day (if within 24hrs)

RESULT!!!!

I called the service centre, and asked if I could change the first flight, CAN - MEL, to the day before.

I'm pretty sure he said that if it had been a classic award, I would have been able to do the change within a 24 hour period.

However, as it was a JASA, the service rep went away for a while to "calculate" the penalty for changing.
He came back and said that there is NO penalty. Ended up paying $7.44 in extra taxes and charges + $40 for service fee. Now that beats having to fly back to Canberra just so I could take the Canberra to Melbourne sector of my AKL trip.

So all up, got a JASA from CAN-MEL-AKL for about 53,000 points + $47.44 for flights on two days. Best MEL-AKL on the same flight was 151,000 points. So thanks to this anomaly I effectively get a J flight from CAN-MEL for $47.44 (and saved me booking the separate flight CAN-MEL that I almost booked before I booked the JASA).

I love these JASAs.

And you are so right, Markis10 - don't burn 40 scs....! :D
