What exactly does 'under airport control' mean?

Without looking at what seats were available we upgraded from Y (57k/j) to Y+ on both of our NZ flights to BA in a couple of weeks. Of course only middle seats available for the AKL - EZE leg in a 772 V2, but three or four window 'twos' are blocked. I called NZ yesterday and was told that they are under airport control and to try to move when we check-in in Brizvegas.

What exactly is airport control? Do we actually have a chance of getting one of those window pairs?

So want to look out at those Andes as we fly over them.

Yep. Usually occurs around the time that online check-in opens.

My suggestion to you (if it hasn't opened already) is to check-in online as soon as it opens up.

Be at check in when it opens. It's not under check in control until then. Then it will move over to gate control.
