Hi All. Does anyone anyone know what "prepaid travel cost" include? Would this include things like ESTA/ETA/Visa costs? It says things like accomm/travel but it's not defined. The only catch all that might be applicable is "Your other prepaid overseas itinerary items".

Any thoughts/experiences?

I’d be surprised if for example, a USA ESTA could be claimed since it could still be used in the future (given you can’t cancel for a refund but you still have 2yrs / life of passport use).

Similarly, the cost of a new PP would probably be rejected given the future use for 10 yrs.

A visa with specific start dates/durations *might* be claimable?

But if you had to lodged a claim for any number of pre-paid, non-refundable flights, hotels, cruises, cars, tours etc you could still try the other stuff. They’ll just reject stuff not covered and payout those that are.

Thanks SYD. I wasn't clear in my initial post but I had meant it for the purposes of activation whether they would be considered as prepaid costs but you do mention some good points

Ah, I see. I’d reckon anything beyond flights, hotels, cruise etc might be pushing it. Some will have a min spend anyway to activate CC insurance.

I’m with SYD on this in terms of definitions.

Pre-paid = things for that specific trip. From various different policies they mention things such as taxes and fees on award tickets, hotels and accommodation, car hire, transfers.

I suppose - maybe - a prepaid VOA for somewhere like Indonesia might also fit the bill? But it’s never been mentioned in any of the policies. Which could just be that policies haven’t caught up with the times.

If unsure you can call the insurance provider and ask.
