What Do You Do When You First Arrive at a Travel Destination?

If its a budget hotel...throw bag in corner and have a nap.

If its a fancy hotel...throw bag in corner, remove 20 useless cushions...then have a nap.

Then explore, buy SIM card, dinner, snacks etc.

Only thing I'd add in is boil the kettle if I'm in a country where the tap water isn't safe to drink.

my habit is to find the most convenient power point where I can use an adapter plus my Aus powerboard to set up the "charge station", plug everything in, then head for the shower.

This habit stems from 80's, but modern rooms are increasingly providing USB ports in convenient places which makes the power board a little less critical. Old habits die hard.

This is also the first thing that Mr Seat0A does whenever we travel too!

I'm pretty sure i don't own anything the cleaner would be keen on trying out - definitely not a Gucci kind of girl, but I also chat with everyone.

I'm curious as to why people take photos of their rooms? I'm obviously missing something.

I like a reminder of the physical room location so usually take a picture of floor plan on the fire escape instructions inside the room door.

Yes, back in the days when I used to be a frequent flyer, I used to take a photo of my room number because I had one too many embarrassing moments when I forgot my room number! Oh those were the days!

Yep the number of times I'd go and ask for something and say room 902 and they would look at me and you'd go oh no that was yesterday or last week. This was way before mobile phones so I couldn't take a photo

I've even tried to use my key card to get into someone else's room - while they were in there . On another occasion, I complained at reception that my key card didn't work. They coded a new one. Still didn't work. After three tries, they politely asked me what room I was trying to open, and then pointed out that it wasn't my room. Boy have I felt silly!

So after being away for a few days in country SA and remember these are not 5 star establishments.

Take off all unnecessary cushions and stuff on the bed. Especially the ones that match the bedspread and you know aren't washed every time someone stays.

Put the tonic in the fridge and make a note to include an ice cube tray in my travelling kit.

Not sure about others but didn't turn on the TV for 5 days

What is it with those horrible cushions hotels insist on using and the itchy/scratchy runner thing on the bed? I always throw it all in the cupboard only to find them back in-situ after room service.
At least that little strip of crime scene tape you find over the loo seat in some regional motels is evidence that all is clean.
