QFi is deservedly receiving a fair bit of criticism for its unpunctuality and cancellations that either have or are adversely affecting thousands booked on long distance A380 and B744 routes. For instance QF1 is again to be cancelled on Thursday 14 November, and QF35/QF36 today (Wednesday 13) are reduced to an A332.
So to turn the tables, what are QFi's most punctual flights? (I'm excluding TransTasman and only considering longer QFi flights).
Usually the Japanese ones (QF25/26, QF61/62 and QF79/80) would be 'up there' but 'the 25' had two days recently when it departed about 17 hours late from SYD, and 'the 79' isn't always on time.
Three good return flights that are almost always punctual come to mind.
The unheralded QF71/QF72 PER - SIN and return is one working. It's hardly an obvious candidate because one might think that being an isolated operation, it'd have more chance of something going awry. Yet while I don't look at it every day, it rarely if ever seems to run late.
The other ones are QF97/QF98 between BNE and HKG, and QF51/QF52 between BNE and SIN. 'The 51' often pushes back early.
It's interesting that QFi's timekeeping out of BNE seems better than ex MEL overall, but that's true of QFd (and other airlines) as well. Some time back, one of AFF's aviators ranked (of the three major east coast airports) BNE as the easiest in which to operate in and out of, SYD next and MEL worst. That may be counter-intuitive to passengers because in runway terms, BNE arguably has the least facilities, but our aviator's rankings are solidly backed by the official government BITRE timekeeping statistics.
