Hi,

I am WP but not travelling. My guests are travelling domestic Qantas Y but have no status nor QP membership. What is our chances of entering domestic QP or J lounge? How lenient are they?

Many thanks.

I was in the same situation recently in BNE when a lounge angel at the premium entry asked if I had checked in. I tried my luck and replied (truthfully) that my accompanying friend had while I showed her my Platinum card. She must have assumed I was going to check in at the lounge upstairs and waved us through... Where will you be?

I have been denied entry, I actually needed to guarantee entry under similar circumstances, so I booked a cheap ($59.00 ?) Jet* flight, I was then able to guest my client in for what was an important meeting . i think at that rate its cheaper than buying a lounge entry voucher :)

I have similarly purchased a cheap JQ flight to 'throw away' after entry. Just make sure you don't actually check a bag in ;)

I've had limited success over the years but need to be prepared that access will be denied. Obviously it will all depend on the person you encounter at the entrance.

Or you could book a QF J fare and just cancel it. I think that would work rather than a throw away J* fare.

Of course, the irony is that your two companions don't have to be travelling!

It depends on the Lounge ... if a busy J Lounge (such as SYD) you may wish to try your luck; ADL, I wouldn't risk it. MEL ... you have two different reviews, however the J entrance is usually just a wave of the card anyway.

Unlike the full body inspection back in the SG days, I've never had anyone more than glance at my card at any domestic QF lounge.

In fact I remember a fun exchange in Sydney J where I offered my card to the guardian and she waved me through without looking at it. Her colleague a few seats down then tried to challenge me, and quite aggressively so, to which the original guardian loudly responded "I've already checked his card and he's free to go in" with an epic sigh. It was quite cute.

Of course, if QF is one thing it is that it is consistently inconsistent, and you could always run into a real grouch.

I've done it 3 times and been successful every time - BUT always in the CBR J lounge and I've been completely upfront with the desk agent that I'm not travelling but my friend was (NB status; her flight ex-CBR in Y). All three times were late in day so staff relaxed, plus they've seen me regularly so I'm sure that helps. Through full disclosure I was not worried about any embarassing rejection.

That's not just restricted to Qantas.

They are everywhere.

Status could be one thing but I've witnessed way too many people pulled over in BNE just flashing their Qantas Club card and surprise surprise not flying Qantas on the day. It's a touch embarrassing even with the excuses they use of "Oh I didn't know I had to be flying Qantas!".

In my opinion it is better to ask and getting refused access.

Can sometimes work in Adelaide when not on Qantas flight by being a regular in the lounge (when travelling Q).

This was exactly my experience with the CBR J lounge. The staff there are so friendly.
