What’s the Hertz upgrade order

I have a hertz booking upcoming for a full-size SUV hybrid. E2 and am 5 star gold or something .
Is there any likely chance of an upgrade to a Q7? (J2 I think?)
Otherwise I might just book it outright.

Depends on the location. Airport I'd say good chance provided the upgrade rules include E2 and above. Check to see if J2 is available for hire for your dates too.

Thanks. J2 is there, just not sure on the upgrade rules, order priority etc.
Car hire firms seem to be a law unto themselves anyway

The maximum upgrade will be to a "full size" class/group. Upgrades, not guaranteed for a 5 star gold, would be limited to one class. Some locations may allow you to pick whichever car you want, but that'd exclude the fancy vehicles. Maybe a Q7 would be in that group?

I'm PC and my local (not an airport) always bumps me up a couple of grades to a comfy SUV or a Prado from a Camry/Corolla/i30. Only ever got the "take your pick" from MEL (airport).

TBH, I don't follow the class/groups that easily. Where E2 and J2 sit in the class/group order relative to "full size", I don't know.

Not sure if it would help but you can always ask at the counter for an upgrade or a different vehicle if you don't like the option provided.

As someone already mentioned , I have used that option couple of times as I did not want the upgraded EV and had to pick any car from the lot available.

Pretty much next to 0 chance you'd get given a Audi Q7 (J5 class) as an upgrade, so if you're wanting that model I would go and book it, or ask what the upgrade rate is at the desk.

The premium full size is actually a Group D (Toyota Camry), so anything chosen bigger than that is a luck draw and there's only the Kia Carnival above the E2 class in the Hertz car class pyramid.

Cool, thanks! In future I'll know that if I want it then I need to book it. Having only needed small cars before (no kids) I was always getting upgrades I didn't realise what the order was or where it capped.
My Kluger should be sufficient anyway, assuming no issues.

I'd always take this approach (if you want it, book it) because even if you're guaranteed an upgrade, if they don't have any other cars, you're never going to get it. I've had that happen at LHR many times.

In honesty I didn’t really want the Audi til I got one a couple weeks back and so I just wondered what the overall deal was.

So my hybrid kluger was “upgraded” to a ford Everest, some sort of battle tank in a past life, I assume.
Not sure that’s a real upgrade but it’s doing the job.

A hybrid would be much cheaper to run too, wouldn't it? I had a Mitsi Outlander PHEV thing a few years ago in Adelaide. I drove around town for a few days and the fuel gauge didn't budge, which was great as I didn't have to bother with refueling.

Just on the refueling (but OT here sorry): What's the go with renting electric cars? Do you have to return it with some measure of battery power remaining? If so, I'd imagine one must know where to do that and allocate time accordingly prior to returning the car.

On EV they need to be near full too
