Hi guys, like everyone else I'm reconsidering this card with the adverse changes flagged. One question though - what happens to the extended warranties you get for items purchased with this card if you are no longer a card holder?

I have spoken to them about this and was told as soon as the card is canceled, so is the extended warranty

Struggling to use your Frequent Flyer Points?

Frequent Flyer Concierge takes the hard work out of finding award availability and redeeming your frequent flyer or credit card points for flights.

Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

From 1/3/11, purchases in Australia on Platinum Visa will earn 0.5 points per dollar (reduced from 1). No change to earn rates on all other cards.
It is now over 1 month since this OP - has anybody come up with an alternative that might earn 1:1 on Visa / MC for those of us that chase KF points as opposed to Qantas?

Well cruiser elite I am having mixed thoughts on whether to use Visa on tax bills when the family seem to want to go everywhere ,any time so maybe I just need to cough up the extra to go 1.5 points on the AMEX.
The Visa will be miserable at half a pointfrom 15 th March.
I do plan to talk with Citi as I did get Select running ok for Mrscove for QF points.
Their call centre is a bit of a shambles so you could get 3 different answers from 3 calls
on KRIS points.

cove I already use AMEX for tax - but I am really peeved at losing up to 5K KF pts / month with Visa downgrade - that almost costs me 1 x J Saver to CAN, SZX or MNL annually - hate that - really do need to find an alternative.

Is this really the case?

I was informed that the travel insurnace would be valid if the card is cancelled as long as you keep the paper statement and make this claim to Zurich, who I believe are their providers.

Should be the same for extended warranties.

Suddenly we don't seem to have enough Kris points so I guess that has stopped us worrying about the 3 year expiry rule!
We do still have about 55 days with the Visa at a point a dollar on Kris.

cove,
I have contacted many of my suppliers and will prepay 3 months purchases before the change date on Westpac KF card..
After that, I have 2 Citi Emirates Cards ( one for mrs max ) that will not take too long to fill.......grrrrrrrrr ($100,000 on each).
I am beginning to lean towards replacing Westpac with Citi Select. My Amex spend is about 10% of my spend so will lose a few points only by getting 1:1 instead of the 1.5:1. probably once I have a Select card , I will cancell the Emirates cards. This way I will only have $700 a year membership.

Some fiendish thoughts are landing on this thread. Prepayments!
Meanwhile our very own treasurer is thinking higher taxes for us to pay some time soon on our credit cards. Naturally he keeps thinking bigger Government is good.
This game of frequent flyer points collecting is definitely a moving target and it still appears to be falling into Citi Selects lap for Visa for SQ points.
Remember that Virgin and Coles are probably rejigging their offerings as they are both pretty ordinary at the moment.
American Express have become a big winner based on our big four banks being such short arms. The problem is general business cannot afford the Amex fees and only take Visa and MasterCard to ensure earlier debt recovery.

Checked with Zurich - insurance and extended warranties still remain even if the card is cancelled

Just need to show the item on your statement when making a claim

On a somewhat related note.. if i booked a SQ fare for December this year but cancel my card after the September renewal would I still get the double miles for SQ bookings? I wonder...

The double points come through as Bonus Miles on the statement upon which the charge appears. The points post to KF on or about the same day as the Westpac statement is produced.

25 Days to Go

Less than a month remaining for Westpac SQ Visa to earn 1:1 - I still see nothing on the horizon to take its place in terms of Visa / MC KF points earnability - have I missed something?

Much appreciated, thanks.

Just tried doing a J class booking with Voucher and tell me I can't do it? Really wanting to treat myself to Singapore GP on Business.

Do it!
have done it the last 2 years.
even better if you get to use the voucher as the grandstand tickets are quite expensive.

I was lucky enough to go in 2009 as I was going to Vietnam for work so took a few days off... I also had a very generous friend give me his 3-day grandstand pass for Turn 2. I won't forgetting that for a very very long time!!

Edit: If i can book a J saver trip I will do it! However need Amex to give me my bonus points (or spend more) and voucher to work...

There's the Citibank Select card, although it's $700/year.
As far as I know, that's the only one with KF 1:1.

Any one care to correct me?

Singapore Airlines Westpac Platinum Visa ® Card purchases with merchants located within Australia - earn 1 KrisFlyer mile per $1 spent on purchases until 14 March 2011 (will be 0.5 KrisFlyer mile per $1 spent on purchases 1 from 15 March 2011)

I got caught when the commonwealth changed their points to 0.5 for $1
They gave 1 point per $1 to the end of the statement and then 0.5
My statement with Westpac is around the 4th of the month, do I get 1 point per $1 until the 4th when they transfer the points to krisflyer or until the 14th of march ?
Do any one knows for sure ?
We can lose a lot of points.

I would assume purchase date is applicable date - would that not be logical?

Hmmm - banks implementing a logical decision - oxy moron huh?
