You had me worried for a minute, but I'm pretty sure that outside of the promotion period, Altitude Black Amex earns 3 Altitude points, which then can be transferred to 1.5 KF or Enrich or VA or Cathay points.

That's my understanding as well. I've had these cards for a while now and they earn 3 for the Amex and 1.25 for the MC. I don't think I've had any promo that I'm aware of.

The Earth and Altitude effective FF earn rates are absolutely identical irrespective of which version of the cards you have (comparing like-for-like between the two). Therefore, Altitude's FF partners cough all over Qantas in terms of points cost and availability of long-haul premium cabin award redemptions.

That's correct - Black Amex earns 3 Altitude points per $, which converts to 1.5 FF pts per $ for those programs.

Thanks for that - that answers my question. So that means that during the promotion it earns 6 Altitude points (i.e. 3 FF points).....

Just did my switch from earth black to altitude black today too!

Btw anyone had any difficulty getting points with the potentially large annual payment we all have to make once a year with altitude black?
