Western Sydney Airport (WSI) Discussion

Is there any way I can find out what cargo flights are landing at night currently? According to the data I shouldnt be hearing anything but I swear there are 3 planes I notice about 9-9.30pm flying over that Ive not noticed until recently and Im 45klms away from the airport (25klms straight line)

From the QR press release
Qatar Airways flights to Western Sydney International Airport (WSI)
Starting 15 December 2027, flights from Doha will operate every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday:
Doha (DOH) to Western Sydney (WSI) – Flight QR906: Departure 01:40; Arrival 23:45
Flights from Western Sydney will operate every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday:
Western Sydney (WSI) to Doha (DOH) – Flight QR907: Departure 16:10; Arrival 23:00

so QR is happy to have their planes parked at WSI for 16ish hours? wow, or are they playing tag with them somewhere else??
I feel for some reason Melbourne is not as busy as Sydney which means Avalon is still yet to achieve their level of attractiveness.
Yet so many Melbourne residents feel that QF leaves them out..

Depends how you search. SYD has an advantage in being the first three letters of the airport name as well as the location code.

So potentially they may have prioritise SYD in the city?

QF has abandoned Melbourne for some reason, even it has a higher population than Sydney. Perhaps income profile matters?

Genuine question, but I still thought they blocked off access to WSI via the roads?
No they have not. You literally can drive to the door of WSI, wherever the doors are open at the terminal building is another question.

WSI<>HBA on twin aisles. That'll be the day!
While I agree with the sentiment, HBA has had its runway lengthened and strengthened to accommodate twin aisles (your federal taxes at work – thank you). Even though they are basically broke, I wouldn’t put it beyond the Tasmanian government to put some money up to QR for some tag flights, at least for a while, for the publicity and gimmickry.

As someone observed, the jets are going to be at WSI for 16 hours, so it doesn’t seem to be a logistical impediment.

Shame it doesn't leave from Double Bay - or Rose Bay - as per the hilarious writers behind this article.

LOL. That’s a satire site. Not happening.

I'm sure we'll see plenty of WSI-SYD flight plans over time. Just not as a bookable service.

SYD alternate should surely be WSI unless weather is so bad it knocks both airports offline.
