Does WSI have "flex" gates like Adelaide and others, that can be domestic or international? Seems this might be the ideal setup at the start given the expected light international load. It can be a challenge with things like lounges however - if SQ mainline really is flying there (and not Scoot), it seems they will want a lounge of some sort.

I'm guessing there will be two lounges to start off with at WSI, Qantas and a third-party operator lounge (for all other non-QF partners). I'd tip that SQ will use the third-party lounge.

I'd assume both proposed lounges are before International Security.

I wonder what communication options there will be to Sydney CBD? At the moment it is about 1 hour by car.

My guess is that they would have something like Skybus like MEL

I wonder what is the strategy by any of the candidate carriers as to which services (if any) will be run from either Sydney airport. SYD/WSI transfers sound a bit funny. I suppose that's not intended to happen at all.

Asian carriers (eg SQ) strategy is probably centred on a midnight departure along the lines of those from MEL and BNE to feed their morning departure banks at their hub. Taking SQ as an example this would offer connections to SE Asia, China, India, Japan and even LHR.

Suspect on opening it will be temporary bus to St.Marys or maybe Penrith (until Metro opens) from which it's about an hour to Town Hall.

And a more permanent bus to Campbeltown, and maybe Parramatta.

I just don't see the need for dedicated transport to the CBD.

Quite possibly. But those traveling to/ staying/living in the CBD are not the target market for this airport

No. WSI has a much bigger catchment population than Avalon (based on the number of people that live closer to WSI than SYD vs those that live closer to AVV then MEL). And it will get some flights at times that SYD has a curfew, that dynamic doesn't exist between MEL and AVV.

It might feel like it for the first few years, but as others have said surely it'll pick up quickly, if only the overnight curfew slots that SYD can't handle

Hopefully the delayed Metro line doesn't bake in poor bus and private vehicle connections that turn the surrounding area into another Mascot rat run. At least there won't be a Station Access Fee for Metro
