Wendouree allocations and general discussion

I've sent them a letter asking them to add me to the mailing list. It felt very strange....to ask for permission to buy something and all done via snail mail.

It was the first traditional hand written letter I have sent in 10 or 15 - maybe even 20 years - it did seem strange but so did the price - I was expecting it to be far higher*

As I mentioned up thread I have never actually tried any of their wine - I ordered some of everything this time to get an idea of which ones I like and then next year I will focus on getting a few more of just 2 or 3.

I don't need to try the straight Shiraz or Cab Sauv - just the Shiraz Mataro and Malbec / Malbec blends - it is going to be a shame to open them so young but...

*except for the delivery charge

Now I felt kinda slack about it, typed it out and signed it. If they let me buy anything this year I'll just lock them up and wait.

I went all out and used the stationary from my Emirates SYD - BNE F experience - not likely to use it for anything else

Lucky there were 5 sheets of paper in the kit as I had to have a few goes before it was neat enough for someone else to read

The letter that came with the order form says;

"We request that you place your orders by mail on the original form provided. Please note that dispatch will take several months, and credit cards will only be charged once the wine is packed and ready for dispatch, and that we are unable to accept Diners Club Cards."

This is standard. What is important is the colour of the crayon used at the top of the original order form. Different colours mean different levels of priority - especially for the Shiraz and cab sav.

aha, that explains the red crayon- I wondered why it was there.

I was not really important enough to get crayon on mine :)

Got my form, no crayons or any weird markings.

Got told to expect nothing this year and just to secure my place for next year's mailing list by sending in the form.

Anyhow, what should I attempt to order (besides shiraz) and do they take Amex?

No crayon is the norm for new people. Ideally you want a red or black crayon. This will come in the years ahead.

Who told you this?

I'd order whatever you wanted. You might just get something. I'd be very confident that you could get some Muscat, as the offering this years is the same vintage as last year.

As far as I recall they take AMEX, but no Diners Card.

My small order from Wendouree arrived today :D

Did you get what you asked for? Pictures?

I've got an amount of several thousand dollars charged to my credit card from yesterday, but I can't yet see the merchants name. Either I'm in trouble with a fraudulent transaction, or my Wendouree purchase has now occurred!

I did indeed get what I asked for - I will snap some pic's later today and post

That's what they've said in their letter :(

I'm sure you are disappointed, but just getting on the list is a start. As before, I still suggest you send in an order.

From its source, Wendouree is a privilege to purchase and a pleasure to drink.

Oh and I should make mention of the fact that they like loyalty from their purchasers. I know of some who decided not to purchase in 2011 because they viewed it as a poor year (although more for Barossa and McLaren rather than Clare). They weren't offered anything in 2012.

Still waiting for my CC to be charged :D

They usually process orders on a state by state basis. Eg. This year maybe Tasmania was first then New South Wales. So Victoria might even be last this year.

Oh, I hope that's the case! No charges on my card as yet but I only squeaked through to get on the list this year.

ETA - I'm in NSW so hoping they're not finished with this state
