Wellington(NZ) airport is not that far from city(6km) and if you are traveling with 2 or more people, you might just catch a cab as it will cost $NZD 30-40 and take 10-15mins. However, if you travel alone and if you don't want to waste money for the cab or uber, you can always jump into the bus. The airport bus 91 runs frequently and it takes 20-25mins with $9 fare to city.

Alternatively(this is my favourite option), if you don't have many luggages, and happy to explore the suburb on the way to town, I recommend catch bus 11 outside of the airport complex. Once you come out of the arrival hall, turn left and walk towards BK(Burger King - HJ in Aussie) which is just outside of the airport main entrance. Once you pass BK, cross the road towards Airport Motor Lodge located on the corner of Hobart Street and Broadway(it will take only 5-7mins from arrival hall). There is a bus stop sign where you can catch the bus 11 and it runs every 15-20mins. This bus will take you to Courtney Place, Cuba Street and Lambton Quay. It will cost only $4 and take 30mins. If you are too early for your hotel check-in or if you want to explore other parts of the city on the way to downtown, get off the bus at Newtown and try the local coffe or walk around the street. When you come back to the airport, you can also catch the same bus running opposite direction.

Formore information, please visit metlink website. The exact name of the bus stop I stated above is 'Hobart Street at Broadway (near 3)'. For any reason, if you search using 'Wellington airport' as a departure point, the above bus may not be shown and it only shows bus 91.

Happy trip.

From what I can tell its a 3-zone fare (3,2,1) which is NZ$5 cash or 4.08 on Snapper (a Snapper has an upfront cost of NZ$10)
Also seem to be a bunch of other buses including 2,18,43 with stops 2-300m further away

The Airport fare is 4-zone (airport an extra zone) so NZ$9 cash or 7.20 on Snapper

Suspect for most the 91 is worth the extra NZ$4.
Generally quite expensive public transport -- even periodicals

Available at the Airport Flyer kiosk according to the Snapper website

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.
