Welcome to another year of Velocity Platinum membership

After being status matched last year, I was comped to Gold again today without having achieved the required SCs. I have only reached 220 SCs but I had to cancel a flight booked under the targeted "double SCs" promo a few weeks back, which they might have taken into account. Overall quite happy to continue to be Gold, will hopefully come in handy for an upcoming trip to Africa using EY... and they might also have seen this flight in my upcoming bookings!

Happy for all you guys who are getting comped - feel like it slightly undermines me earning my 1,000 SC's the hard way but thats cool - so long as flexibility is exercised towards me in the future if I can't get the required 800

Not likely, I just got an email from velocity. " you are almost platinum, spend a bit more money with us and you will get there"
i must admit after seeing all these people getting complimentary platinum a, I am actually insulted by the fact that after 900 sc they have the hide to try to prompt me to spend more $$$ with them, after giving it away to others. Actually encouraged me to book qf for my trip to CBR next week, rather than DJ. WHICH I JUST DID.

How many people are being comped :?:

I don't see many just a few of the same stories being repeated.

Maybe I'm wrong so someone put me out of my misery either way.

How many SCs did you rack up before review?

280SCs, although I did do the 2 sets of return flights as requested during the July/August promotion.

Should I find you Mitt Romneys gun for you. (check my Facebook page for the reference)

Comped to platinum at 280 SCs last week (40 on virgin, 240 on Singapore airlines)
Qantas status match last year
Good incentive to keep booking on Virgin

Lol. Someone very close to me got email last night. Gold renewed for another year, zero flights taken since sm.
Funny hey :(

They are getting comp'd platinum because they earned it in one program or another, getting Platinum for the first time without having achieved it in another program is a different thing all together, and somewhat rare.

Far out...... This is starting to reek of desperation!

For those burned true BIS DJ flyers out there you'll be happy to know I was bumped down to Gold as I should have been, despite flying a hell of a lot more on DJ than a lot of people getting comped on here!!!

Don't mind as I don't deserve it! Plat at DJ doesn't really give me enough to care about over Gold at the moment.

Recieved an email this morning from Velocity, telling me I'm so close to silver and it I only need to do a MEL-SYD-MEL flexi.

Should I reply and ask for Gold? ;)

Note: I'll be gold on booked flights by November but everyone else seem's to be getting it :p

Ok, so with that logic, someone who flys [redacted]loads with aeroflot or elal, or afghan airways has more right to platinum with virgin than someone who spends many thousands of dollars with them, putting up with their ongoing " teething problems"

Well to make some happier, my assessment downgraded me to Gold with just the 4 segments and 100 SC's.

No worries, my Air NZ Gold Elite Status will see me with full bennies in any case ... :D

Shrek was also downgraded 100 SC's and 9 segments.
He has now turned off the family pooling  :p

if the airline is happy to accept Aeroflot, afghan or ElAl status then yes. They are trying to attract new customers. Someone who can demonstrate lots of flying is different to someone who says trust me. Still I can't imagine many people who would regular fly those airlines who would be of much value in a domestic airline in Australia, give the lack of earning opportunities here.

Having said that I appreciate your situation. But the flying you've mentioned is in the Gold level. Presumably they have given you gold status benefits.

Ridiculous.
Care to elaborate? Dnicoll may have flown a lot more on QF in past years, had a match thru work or anything. There's obviously a reason, but without knowing more you can hardly say it's ridiculous.

I find the fact people are getting another year of status with minimal flying pretty insulting. Kind of defeats the purpose of having a whole status credit requalification system, dosen't it?

What more is there to say?

No it doesn't.

1/ It's nothing to do with you.
VA could randomly give away 1 million Platinum memberships with tomorrow's Herald Sun, and if those people don't fly - then it makes no difference to you (except your feeling of exclusivity).

2/ They still need to fly to take your seat in the lounge or compete with you for award seats. And if they continue to not fly significantly, then the impact is minimal.

3/ If it acts as an incentive for them to fly more with VA - then VA wins. And if the program is more successful - then ultimately you win when genuine enhancements are made.

There won't be new lounges, improvements and upgrades without new members and a growing program.

Whether it's double status credits, bonus credits on credit cards, or membership renewals, same argument applies.....

Once you take away the ego and exclusivity - fact is you have to fly to take advantage of the status, and if you're not flying - you're not impacting on anyone else's benefits. Period.

Not if it turns off *actual* high value frequent flyers.

In my case, I can state for a fact that I will be flying Virgin less this year, directly as a result of;

1. Removal of ATA, and
2. The constant freebies thrown around by Virgin to those that have *proven by their actions already* that they are not particularly loyal to Virgin
