Have a weekend in US to fill in, and think of going somewhere (travelling from STL Fri eve/Sat morn and back ther Sun evening).

Was thinking about New Orleans, but the timing isn't fantastic, and cost of return flights not terrific. One option I have come up with is ATL, any recommendations, whether it is worth a short visit, and if so what there is to do?

Coming back from there is quite expensive in Y but it seems that a YUP at $424 USD seems reasonable value - ATL-ORD-STL with sectors of 606 miles and 258 miles I would net 150 SC's for about $150 more than the best Y fare. (assuming the 606 miles AA list is what QF awards).

I'd certainly consider it at those prices, particularly if SC's towards renewal are tight (not long to go before renewal or not a lot of flying).

Going somewhere new is always fun and you can add ATL to your list of visited airports...

Well there's a Coke museum,Gone with the wind museum. The Diorama of the burning of Atlanta is worth a visit.A couple of reccomended Soul food restaurants-though not my cup of tea.
Things are spread out and a car would be a good idea.

What about weekend in Savannah GA?

There is a link on the AA website with deals ex cities including STL to a number of places including Savannah which by all accounts is an interesting place to go (on my list but not yet been there).

Doesn't look like you can depart on Fridays but you could get a super saver fare outbound for USD156.00 on Saturday then do a KUP on the return for USD443.00 the latter travelling SAV/MIA/DFW/STL as below 3 sectors or just SAV/MIA/STL still for USD443.00.

Thanks ozbeachbabe these seems like a good idea. Since posting this, one of my colleagues suggested Savannah as well so two recommendations is good enough for me, and you've even done the work for me, as that's the right weekend! Much appreciated :)

Now to get the OK from my SO!

You'll have to do a trip report for us then!

So are you doing the 2 flight or 3 flight option 17 Oct SAV back to STL?

Yes will do TR!

Coming back I decided to go the 3 flight option (like a true FF'er), couldn't pass up on the 170 SC's it offers. Getting there however I passed on AA, and I am booked one major carrier in the US I have no status on - that being DL. But this way I can leave/arrive on Friday evening, so don't kill half of Saturday getting there ( I was trying for US, but at double the price of DL on Fri evening, it just wasn't worth it, and CO/UA/AA timetables didn't suit). At least I will get to visit the worlds' busiest airport FWIW, and add to my measly 2,000 pt VN balance
