Weekend Getaway

Within oz it's Darwin or Newcastle for me. Darwin is hot which means it's perfect for boozing at the yacht club or the ski club and there's plenty of sight seeing at corroboree billabong. Newcastle has plenty of beaches and is close to to the hunter valley wineries. I'm biased as we have family in both locations. Internationally, I have to say Auckland, Waiheke island.

Any place in Asia other than Singapore? Feel like a short break Fri-Mon, during August.

Just back from Port Douglas, with a little visit to Palm Cove and Cairns. Heartily support a long w/end in PD and the lovely drive there and back on a sometimes slightly windy road often hugging the coast.

For me it's MEL, but second the choices of Hunter Valley/NTL as I live there and Port Douglas/Cairns beaches as I've just finished a week long holiday here. Perfect weather and a big contrast for us as we usually ski in ZQN in July. After having spent all of Dec/Jan in North America we couldn't face (or afford even) another cold holiday.

Another great weekend destination is Noosa. Ambition of mine is to own a holiday home in Sunshine Beach if I ever win the lotto :)

Yep, no long journey, no currency issues and a great place to unwind, we go about once every month or so.

Great place to eat at PD is known as the "Tin Shed" its an old Combined Services Club, located left of park and Sunday markets, spent a bucket of dosh there past few years, good food (cheap), best beer on tap and decked right over the PD inlet.

So many nice places in Australia to spend a few nights. Some of my favourites: Mornington Peninsula, Hobart, Surfers Paradise, Noosa, Margaret River.
For a quick overseas trip, Fiji and Singapore.

Currently in the hunter valley, leaving this arvo, great weekend away

1770, Rainbow Beach, Singapore, Hong Kong, Bangkok, Huka Lodge

I live on the Sunny Coast so every weekend is a long weekend

I have done long weekends like that to Koh Samui, HKG, PVG, DPS for example. Also feasible, but I haven't done yet, are LGK or Penang. I don't like HKT but it could be another possibility.

Not in Asia, but NOU or NAD are do-able if it is sunshine you are after. With NAD it's even possible to do a normal weekend without taking time off work (it is possible from ADL at least, I presume also possible from other places).

SIN is still my favourite though :)

I think you mean NOU and NAN, not NAD.

Brunswick Heads in Northern NSW is good for a quiet weekend as is Burrum Heads and the Fraser Coast in QLD

Having just been to Uluru and Alice Springs with the FT Oz Fest group may I suggest one or both of these as quite suitable also.
