despite living in this fine city all my life, I have never really stayed at any of the high-end hotels here.

Looking for suggestions for a hotel for the lead up to, and night of, my wedding next March.

ideally it would be nice to book on points but i think it would be difficult to justify to the fiancee a base room on such a milestone day in our relationship!

with that said, the budget doesn't stretch as far as a room at the PH - I'd think I'd be feeling pretty uncomfortable spending anything more than $500/night. at the moment learning towards something on Macquarie St (intercontinental, sir stamford or pullman quay grand)

keen to hear where people stay in Sydney when they're looking for a luxurious time away rather than here for business as some inspiration!

cheers

We stayed at the intercontinental on our wedding night was a great experience and had eastern Harbour views from our room.

If you join their club you get a free room at the Intercontinental in Macquarie Street plus a year of discounted dining. You would then upgrade the room to ensure a view and everyone is smiling.

I also stayed at Intercontinental Sydney for our wedding night. It was wonderful experience especially breakfast at roof top (need Club level access).

Priority Privilege is the club to cover the Intercontinental. We live part time in Sydney and we use that hotel for smorgasbord dinners using this club card.

sounds like i need to look into the intercon. then.

why choose priority privilege over dining rewards though? is it because the 2 for 1 can be used for suites/ is better than a free night?

Dining Rewards is the name for Priority Privilege since mid-2014. For a one night stay it is a better option than Ambassador membership which gives you a 2-for-1 weekend cert (but does give a guaranteed upgrade).

Yes it's separate. Details on the Intercontiental section of the IHG website and threads in the AFF IHG subforum

Sheraton on the Park has some very nice (not harbour) views, as would the Darling at Casino.

Also worth to consider the soon to open Ovolo at Woolloomoo (former W, Blue)

Shangri La would be pretty sweet and definitely within the $500 price point. Also having drinks up at Blu Bar is very enjoyable. Reserve a small private area to enjoy the views.

4 seasons at the rocks is my pick, I stayed there when I got engaged, great hotel with a harbour view room.

Sheraton have a (up to 50% off) sale on at the moment

I'd be looking into Shangri La. Certainly one of my favourite hotels around, and not just in Sydney. Super beautiful views and very special. If you avoid the club rooms they can be quite good value depending on the time. Premier Grand Harbour View room is fantastic and averages around $480 a night I believe.

Congratulations!

so folks, have booked the intercon. king club harbour suite. figured with 5 of them getting ready the morning of, splashing out for the suite would be worthwhile with the extra space (is that the worst justification ever? :)) know a friend of a friend who works at IHG so at least got the family & friends rate but ouch!

now onto a NYC hotel for a couple of nights!
