If you could buy status with miles, you get the US system, which I don’t see working here.

Yes, you may be able to earn points in any number of ways, but the best way to show true loyalty is to fly, and thus that’s why it’s the only way you can earn status. If all I had to do was spend on my CC, earn thousands of miles and become top tier I wouldn’t be that valuable to the airline. Similarly, if I stayed in hotels and rented cars, yet then got top tier of Qantas I wouldn’t be loyal to them at all.

:)

Hi samh004,

If you get the chance to read the rest of the entries you will see that i am not advocating SCs for anything but flying.
You all seem to forget what an extremely profitable exercise FF is for qantas - so yes i am showing loyalty to them by changing credit card or preferentially selecting brands of hire car, hotel etc

Happy to have a premium on ASA to reflect the wider choice of flights/seats available, I just think classic seats deserve SCs also. After all the ticket was paid for from the same source - FF points and usually cash to boot.

Thanks

Hi Pu Koh,

It is
philosophical
really - if you change card and select brands then you are showing loyalty to the QFF programme. Don't forget how profitable the whole FF package is to qantas.
Both ASA and classic seats are paid for with points, IMHO both deserve SCs, the premium on ASA should reflect the access to all flights and the convenience/opportunity that gives.
Whilst i understood the difference between the 2 i didn't really properly evaluate the options of cash/points combinations to compare them fairly - rather i fell for the common trap of seeing some ASAs being nearly 100% more points than classic without really looking at the $ component.
I have learnt from a thread suggested by one of the community, thanks.

As an aside the $ components on some of the QFF classic awards seems way out of line compared with a recent Velocity flight I booked return to London.

Thanks
