"We are Enhancing you NBN Service - And it will cost you more":

ABB plans aren't speed capped/choked??
WYSIWYG
Basically 50 all the time day and evening (see point #2)
The speed may drop off a tad in the evening depending on congestion levels but won’t drop to 25 - maybe only a few points off 50

I don’t know about Hellstra but ABB will increase CVC provisioning via a bot if it detects that the traffic is about to hit the CVC ceiling. You can see in the CVC graphs that sometimes the CVC limits goes up and typically it’s in the evening
If so, then I should expect
#2
The most you will get with a 50Mbps is 50. There are particular caveats however with FTTN because the copper will dictate what you can actually get. The other bottle neck is at the FTTN node with up to 200 subscribers then connecting to one or 2?optic fibre.

If I want to stream
You can easily stream without buffering on 25/5. A 50 Mbps will easily accomodate 4K streaming

Dump Qantas first, and then Telstra!
It’s not actually dumping a provider, but an application of a critical eye over over the service/ product provision and not be beholden to anyone out of a sense of loyalty,

If QF can change who provides their services - eg in-house to out-house luggage handling seemingly at a drop of a hat, then the QF customer should be encouraged to also do the same.

I would not say never again QF or TLS but would be happy if what’s on offer is better than what I’m currently getting.

Thanks again.

Getting there. So its possibly going to be a 24/10 ABB NBN plan @ $70 and not 25/4 Telstra at $90 (but - # only available to new Telstra customers!!) and if I need high speed for some reason, use the phone and 4G.

But gee, $70 is still a lot when I will only be using a fraction of the product!! Going to also investigate a pure 4G data solution.

Aw, c;mon. Don't deprive me of the pleasure of telling Telstra they're done 🙂 . Might get a discount to stay with them.

Like you, I'll be keeping my business mobile with them.

24/10 ABB
Can’t go wrong especially with 10 uplink speed.
My tenant (family of 2a2c) in Jindabyne started off with 100/40 to 100/20 to 50/20 and last I heard earlier this year he was on the 25/10.

No problems streaming Netflix.

Re ABB modem - any FTTN modem (even from office works) will do but I would not use the Hellstra modem because it may have different setting. The ABB supplied modem is very reliable - being used by the Jindy tenant for the last 4 years. And any ABB service query is easier with a modem they are familiar with

Having just returned to living in Aus, am I right in seeing almost every internet nbn plan seems to be a cheaper price for 5 to 6 months, then the price increases? Is it standard practice to just churn nbn providers every 6 months now?

Telstra....The "Qantas" of the telecommunications industry, Though to be fair, Qantas has quite a bit further to sink before they reach the depths Telstra has sadly sunk to...

It does seem that way. I churned less than six months ago to Leaptel and am paying less than I was with Internode for the same speed AND they have onshore helpdesk

Yes the signup deals are mostly like this now

I'm on a old 100/40 plan for $69 per month for as long as Optus lets me keep it.

The new pricing is a joke

I've been with ABB ever since FTTN became available in my area. And, I've had cause to deal with the help desk a number of times (never their issue, but NBN's) and they have always been unhurried and very helpful. Based in Morwell I think. When I was on FTTN about the best we could ever get (for years) was 37 down and about 13 up. It didn't vary all that much with time of day. About a year ago, it suddenly fell to around 10, and they were very quick to get me an NBN appointment for their techs to look at the line. In an amazing result, they actually pulled new copper through from the bottom of the street to the pit outside my house, and then my connection jumped to 47 or so down, and stayed there. My neighbours were all still on the old copper, and all suffering to various degrees.

When fibre became available a couple of months ago, I jumped immediately. It's amazing looking at a 930 speed test result connection. Generally it's much more capable than the site at the other end. I've been recommending ABB to everyone around me. It's interesting that Telstra have actually told a couple of them that to get the free fibre upgrade that they'll have to commit for 18 months. Jump to ABB (or just about anyone but Telstra)!

My understanding is that much of the recent pricing increase has been driven by NBN's changing of their pricing. Basically, they have made the slower (50 meg or so) plans much more expensive, whilst reducing the prices on the fast plans. When there's $20 between relatively slow and super fast, why would anyone go slow?

I upgraded my Aussie BB plan from 100/40 to 1000/50 during black friday...there was a code for $20 off for 12 months (not 6)...so my price basically stayed the same. Just prior to that they had actually reduced the price of my 100/40 plan by $4 per month.
