Water Levels Rising In Brisbane CBD

I heard they were trying to salvage all the memories in The Cauldron (or at least protect them) in order to avoid them being washed away / destroyed like in 1974.

They couldn't move The King, so they did the next best thing.

Last I heard was they moved all the trophies to one of the upper levels so they were well and truly safe.

Public transport in BNE will slowly be returning to a more regular schedule. Until 21 January, all public transport will be free of charge.

Still no power at home, we decamped last night to a friends place in Toowong.

Power still off as of now, so looks like it'll be another night away from home. Frozen good remain frozen (in another friend's freezer), fridge goods in work fridge.

Roads slowly opening, river noticably lower now too.

I helped a friend with my Gurney blast the mud out of the bottom of his place near New Farm... but he is upbeat - we joked that they cant call brisbane the Rivercity anymore! lol

I riskily say, a good shower right now would really help wash the mud stains on everyones roofs off, though perhaps waiting till the drains are working properly again would also help wash the mud away better.

The RAAF base is next door to Ipswich where many of the choppers are based, not sure what state its in for fixed wing.

This is text of an email I received from the 9 Sqn association. The effective date was yesterday.

[FONT=&quot]Attached is a small indication of the problems at Amberley from the KC-30 team. It is a photo of the KC-30 hanger looking from Chinook Ave in front of HOCU (the old 38SQN HQ – 12SQN HQ just in front of the maintainers Building). HOCU told me this morning that the flood reached the top of the ground floor desks. All aircraft that could fly left for other bases yesterday morning. One C-17 caught on jacks was lifted a little higher. The C-17 Sim survived unscathed.

Was over at South Brisbane before, and it is a mess over there. Lots of clean-up to be done.

At least the river has gone down and people can actually assess what has happened, and go start the effort of clean-up etc.

A couple of workmates have a huge clean-up effort to go through (one apparently has had their entire house under, another a meter or so through their house). I feel for them, and what is required. There's a huge task ahead.

I recall when I was at university in 2008/2009 and would occasionally drive through Goodna, and remember one time remarking that with the land so cheap, you could have a nice big block and have a house there, despite its shady reputation, but now on the news I see images of Goodna with mud completely over it, the whole place went right under. Unbelievable sights.

I recall when I was at university in 2008/2009 and would occasionally drive through Goodna, and remember one time remarking that with the land so cheap, you could have a nice big block and have a house there, despite its shady reputation, but now on the news I see images of Goodna with mud completely over it, the whole place went right under. Unbelievable sights.

I live just above Goodna in Bellbird Park, so we weren't threatened at all which i am thankful for. Goodna is an absolute mess though. It's unbelievable how far and how deep the water got around here. 2 story houses were completely submerged and the Ipswich Motorway which is elevated through Goodna was completely under. We will be out again tomorrow helping out where we can.

Bligh was more authentic than that red crested crow we have as a PM.

I think she is genuine in her desire to help. The Ministers she has look like duds......half are prepubescent.

I am certainly no fan of Bligh, but i feel she has "stepped up to the plate" during this. Gillard on the other hand has just been more annoying than normal. Campbell Newman, a man i personally regard very highly and Paul Pissale have been extremely impressive.

Even more impressive given that Cr Pissale lives with MS! And what with all the cling ons hanging around the PM and Opposition Leader looking like they are in class when an interview is being done, I suspect they are staffers but found it distracting from what was trying to be said.

It's unbelievable how far and how deep the water got around here. 2 story houses were completely submerged and the Ipswich Motorway which is elevated through Goodna was completely under. We will be out again tomorrow helping out where we can.

Tassie, i am at Sprigfield lakes, (just up the road from Goodna and Bellbird Park)
its a huge shock to see Goonda looking the way it does, thats for sure, it will take forever to get it back on track, i know seeing goodna like that, certainly hit home for my young kids. sounds strange to say, but seeing that helped them understand what had happened as places we go to regularly were well under water.

on another note, i think here in Ipswich we have the BEST mayor in Paul Pissale, his attitude is the best i have ever seen.

Also our premier apears to be stepping up to the plate, lets see how she is doing in a few months time, but CERTAINLY has done a fantastic job in the past week.

My thoughts are with all the people who have suffered loss ( of any type) in the past week,

Holy cough. I haven't seen any of this first hand, having flown out of Brisbane early Tuesday, but that picture brings it home after having worked on the base (and drived down that road every day) for more than 5 years.

Had a look, the main difference I can see is the colour of the river when zoomed out. Interesting to compare it to September 2010.
