I rented a car for two days with Hertz last weekend. Picked it up, signed the agreement etc and then dropped it off and wasn't given a receipt.

Anyway after the charge appeared on my card, I noted that it seemed fairly high. A quick look at the rental agreement revealed that the rate I was charged was a little higher than I'd booked (about $10 a day).

I emailed Hertz but didn't hear back for a week or so (I forgot about it to be honest). I then got a text message saying that they were refunding the difference due to "error 003 - wrong rate" or something similar. Also received was a prewritten email appologising for the over charge. The email was so drafted that it's obvious they send out an awful lot of them. A quick email to ask why it happened got the standard "unfortunatley we can't give you a reason".

Just remember to watch your bills (and ask for a receipt) because it seems Hertz are stooping to a low level to get those extra dollars out of us.
