Hello all,

I'm trying to figure out the last part of a six-city east coast United States trip in January. Everything else is booked and paid for, with Virgin Australia, Virgin America, and Delta.

I'm Velocity Gold, needing a handful more than I currently have booked to get near Platinum.

I need to get from Washington, DC, to Boston, ideally with an airline that will accrue points/credits in my Velocity account.

US Airways flies nonstop. Delta gets me there but with a stop in NY, and for a bit more money.

I'd really prefer to avoid Dulles or BWI as departure points, but this seems not to affect the choice of airlines very much.

Question One: would I get VA status credits both for the DCA-JFK and the JFK-BOS flights if I spring for the Delta ticket?

Question Two: is it worth the hassle of a plane change, in winter, in New York?

Advice and opinions will be gratefully received.

By the way, for some one-way internal United States journeys, I've found first class fares to be only fractionally more than economy fares plus a couple of bags...

Regards,

SBD

Internationally it's by segment.

So with the cheaper First fares booking into, say "A" class, you earn as for First/Business - SC's are 40, 60 , 80 etc. for 0-750, 751-1500, 1501- etc miles.

In your case WAS-JFK-BOS would earn 2 x 40 SC's in First/Business.

As for plane change, look for a 2+ hour transit (if you have Velocity SG or WP status you should get lounge access on DL).
