Waiving of annual fee for Black Card?

Will I be able to cancel and get a full refund? Too optimistic?
You have until the due date of the statement containing the annual fee charges to close the account if you don't wish to pay the annual fee.

Thanks. Unfortunately the fee was taken out on the last day of the statement month and so too late to act. I have however been offered a $110 gesture refund.

Called to cancel, asked a lot of questions about why and other cards. Only offerred a downgrade to a platinum, no fee waiver. Didn't really mind losing it, only the amex has some use now with the visa earn rate being so low.

Totally agree. VISA earn rate is so slow I have benched the card since the rate drop. The adventure card looked much better than the black.

Same as previous posts for me. Called up yesterday to request fee waiver, don't use a lot of the benefits associated with the FF Black card was my reason given. Only offered a product swap, so I changed to the new adventures card, at least it's cheaper and has a free flight :)

Has anyone had any recent luck getting anything (extra points, increased points earn rate, annual fee waivers) out of ANZ card retentions lately?

Called ANZ retentions. They're offering either +0.5 extra point per $1 on both the amex and visa (for a total of 2.0ppd on the amex and 1.25 ppd on the visa) for 3 months if you pay the full annual fee OR a half annual fee waiver.

Got offered 1/2 annual fee. Tried to push more as it's still >$200 and no substantial benefits on this card.
Got transferred to higher authority who didn't offer any benefits. Asked for QF FF pts but computer said no.

Have few weeks to decide. Taking advantage of AMEX offers will most likely return the discounted annual fee with some profit but not sure it's worth keeping the card just for that. Do those who decided to keep and pay the fee actually use it as their primary card?

I outright cancelled my card as I was not willing to pay an annual fee for no real benefit. The ANZ QFF Black is still one of the best (if not the best?) QFF points earner for every day spent in the AMEX/VISA combo. Better than the Westpac equivalent which earns less on the Mastercard. Also better than the NAB which earns only 0.5 points per $. I guess if you were looking specifically for QFF points and needed both cards on the same account, it's probably the best solution. Otherwise you could go for a separate VISA QFF (HSBC, Jetstar,WoW) and a different AMEX although 1.5 QFF per $ on the ANZ Amex is pretty decent as it covers most purchases.

Guys is this correct
I have been charged the annual fee ($425) and I only opened this account 2 weeks ago
Rang ANZ and they said once I reach $2500 spend then I will be credited back the annual fee?
Does this sound right?
Thanks

Doesn't sound right to me. The annual fee has not been charged first up previously for this card.

Never been charged the fee on the 1st year. I would call and ask for it to be reversed right away

Same here, not charged in first 12 months when I applied for annual fee free 1st year promotion.

I guess it could be a change to help keep customers from churning but you need the spend anyway for the points??

same as the above.

had my 1st year waived, but wasnt able to waive the 2nd year. they offered me a 50% off the 2nd year annual fee (so, about $212.50 if my calcs are correct) that I said no to, and they couldnt offer anything more.

proceeded to close the CC. onto the next offer!
