I am waitlisted on BA flight. I am booked in D class and no seats are currently available although there are 9 seats available in J class. I wonder if anybody here knows how likely it would be that another seat in that class would be released. How far ahead would you expect this to happen, the week before or the day before.
Currently one world emerald qff platinum, will this help with the booking on BA.

I have had some success with BA releasing D on some routes. I have found JFK-LHR to be the hardest and have not had D released for that route. But there are lots of flight options to just travelled an hour later than I would otherwise have liked.

When BA has cleared D for me, its normally been around 2 weeks before the departure date, implying to me that they often review loads around that time. There is little you can do to influence the process. You could ask your TA to contact BA on your behalf to ask if they can review your waitlist and noting the OneWorld Emerald status. But it depends on how good a contact your TA has at BA. I have not had any success by contacting BA directly.

Thanks for the reply NM. I am travelling LAX - LHR in less than two weeks so from your experience it is not looking that positive.

It really does depend on the flight. I was trying to route my recent DONE5 SYD-JNB-LHR and for months it sat on J9C0D0. All attempts to get a seat released failed and I ended up going via SIN.

BA has multiple flights LAX-LHR so could you switch to another flight? Or fly AA instead?

I have not travelled LAX-LHR on BA. I would not write off the possibility just yet. I suspect they are less willing to release additional D on certain high-frequency routes like JFK-LHR, than they are on the less busy routes.

If its showing J9 D0, then I expect you are travelling on a peak day of the week, probably a Friday or Sunday. For how long have you been waitlisted?

If waitlisted, do check with the US , the UK and the Australian offices for availability since BA inventory is adjusted from country to country. One country may show D0 whilst another is showing D9 and be able to confirm you on the flight

It certainly depends on the route, I like Kiwiflyer needed D in Lon-Jnb, but was told D is almost unobtainable due to very high loads, thus I went MAD-JNB. The other alternative was LON-HRE, but there was an 8hr connection wait to go to JNB. If anyone has been to Salisbury airport [ I call it that and not Harare because it is the same building and in the same condition as in the 70's ], you would want to wait 8 hrs,.

Anyone had any experience waitlisting for A?

I am waitlisted for A on LHR-DXB.
