One advantage of being retired is timing of trips are at my discretion..
Hoping for a Tokyo in Oct, USA or Europe Dec ( love seeing winter Xmas displays )
Need to work out a couple of trips for beginning of 2018.
However waiting on double Status Credits or a good sale from Qantas.
Perhaps their sales will help choose next destination ?

DSC would be nice. Decent sale would be next nicest!

Boxing Day? The recent sales have have been short. Need SYD-BKK in Feb-Apr and SIN-SYD in Jun-Aug.

Some good fares but very limited dates.

I was hoping for more actually.
Though I think the DSC was mid Jan this year ?

No, the DSC was for a few days early March for flights up to mid-Feb 2018.

I too was hoping for more, the sale period for all routes that I looked at is only for about 8 weeks end July to 21 Sep (between school holidays, yes?). I just got an email from Qantas with this blurb:
---
Boxing Day Flights Sale

Make 2018 the year of adventure and get your travel plans flying with great fares available around Australia throughout autumn and winter~.
---
Autumn and winter is 21 Mar to 21 Sep but I don't see any autumn deals, only from mid-winter onwards.

The Boxing Day sale has made no difference to the airfares for the dates I want to travel.

It's been getting harder and harder to get an airfare on sale of late.

Yep agree with previous posters. Not much in the way of deals. Only one flight 2018 is date specific so may book that one soon.
Had a look at Cathay and Qatar so was really hoping Qantas would have similar

Trippin's Tip of the Week:

Subscribe to other oneworld airline newsletters (ie: Sri Lankan, Cathay, Malaysia etc) for non-homeport departures. Eg; For UL, you want to subscribe to their ex-BKK or ex-HKG deals. For CX you want to subscribe to ex-PEN or ex-TPE/MNL deals.

The deals you can find here can often beat the cough out of anything a DSC offer might provide.

For example, there is a PEN-HKG-NRT vv in biz class on CX available right now for <$1K aussie. QR routinely has $2K AUD HKG-DOH-EUROPE in biz class return.

If you can half the price of a ticket, it's essentially the same as a DSC from status earning perspective.

I think I'd enjoy doing things like you suggest, but I'm time poor. What SC's would that trip reap? If I do CNS-BNE in J, I can get 120SCs for about $635 in a DSC offer and it's a flight I'd need to make anyway, not strictly an SC run.

The QF/EK sale including NZ and europe (J specially) has some pretty good prices IMHO. eg sub-$6k in J oz-LHR is a very very good deal.
